I am finding the smaller the mortgage gets, the bigger the impact of the OP's are. It's so motivating. Can't wait to ditch the 6 figure mortgage and reach the 5 figure mark.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0

I bet can i ask what your mortgage was at its highest ?

TBH it was quite a small mortgage compared to most. We took out £140k about 5 years ago now, but I didn't start properly OP straight away, which I regret. I keep thinking maybe I could already be under £100k now, if only I had started sooner.
Ah well, you live and learn.
On the plus side, house prices still increasing, making my LTV much better. Zoopla thinks my house has now gone up over £60k in value since I purchased it! That would be amazing if it were true.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -
All caught up now (having a lazy Friday in work...!). Far too organised! The declutters are so motivating and rewarding but sometimes the thought of starting is enough to make you shut the door! I definitely need to do the garage, but its at that stage its hard to know where to start - a fire is my current thinking!!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0

Haha we have a garage like that too - even though 75% of it has been converted to a bedroom, and we only have a tiny bit left at the front !!!! Does feel good once it is done though - Have been rearranging furniture tonight so far, I think that's quite enough for nowStarting Mortgage 01.08.08 £171,209.24. Great start to the weekend.... I'm ill
Lucky for me, Hubby is being sympathetic and went out and got me some lemsip stuff to help me breath a little. Unfortunately with me not going along shopping he spent way more than I would have liked. Really need to figure out a way to cut his spending habits.
He was always going overdrawn spending on his debit card (within OD limit but I still hate negative figures!!) so I gave him one of my credit cards to use, so at least he wont be paying interest. Looks like my plan has kinda backfired though as the cc has a limit of about £4k on so he doesn't even think about how much hes putting on it at a time, as he knows I pay it off each month. This has increased his spending by a good £300 extra a month.
Thinking I need a more drastic approach. Maybe take my CC back and just give him cash to spend each week?
Will have to have a good hard think.
On a brighter note, top half of the house is clean and tidy. Bathroom is sparkling
Kitchen and living room look like a bombs hit it tho :rotfl:Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -
In other MSE news, I have just upgraded an old current account that's been lurking around fairly unused. Now its earning 5% interest so should generate another £10ish per monthTotal Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0

I would absolutely take the CC back, £300 pm is such a large amount. Have you spoke to him about budgeting?
Yeah I have spoken to him, but whenever I mention the word budget or finances he switches off
He's very "live in the now" and I am trying to be more like that as I think I have saved up enough now to enjoy things a bit more, but I still get annoyed with unnecessary spending.
I think I am going to try giving him a set amount in cash a week.
I'm thinking I will give him £25 a week in cash for lunches and things. That seems enough to me.
Things like petrol and the weekly food shop can still go on the CC though.
Been to the cash machine and taken the cash out now, so will try and get him on board this new week and see how we get on.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0
