My MF Mission 2015

So I have started my studies. Back to school for me
Thinking of the bigger picture, to help me with my MF mission. The best way to achieve this is to up my income. Small things like ebay and selling stuff helps but I can't do this frequently or for much £ that will make a dent.
Managed to get my work to fund a course for me. If I pass then it's a new shiny qualification to my name. Hoping for a serious income boost in the next couple of years as a result.
Not going to lie, its been a fair few years since I last had to study/ take exams. My first class was a bit strange.
Hopefully I can come back to this post in 2-3 years and take note of a nice salary increase. Wish me luck.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -

you have never obviously raided your piggy bank with a knife in your childhood like I did... :rotfl: That's what I do with my terramundi pots - although maybe it's meant to be bad luck, but better in bank account than in the pot..0 -
O I tried that when I was a kid Pennystretcher but I was never any good at it. Would take me ages :rotfl:
But it's a good idea. Maybe could save the cost of replacing the jar in future. They are not exactly cheap. Would have to make sure it's only £1 & £2 coins and no notes to get in the way.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -
Pinch Punch, a brand new month :j
I love the start to a new month as all my bills come out, everything gets paid and I can play with anything left over. Update as follows;
Payment 7/120 has paid to the mortgage this morning.
Monthly OP of £500 also paid this morning.
£210 interest paid into my ISA this morning.
Worked out that the £210 interest roughly covers 18 days of my mortgage interest. Combine that with £45 I will get from my 123 account this month (another 4 days mortgage interest) and I'm only paying 9 days worth of interest myself this month :TTotal Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -

I don't know about that SJ. Your determination and finding lots of different ways to make/save money are really helping you and I'm sure it wont be long before your monthly OP will beat mine. £500 is my max allowed per month. And you are pretty much there.
It's nice to have similar goals and achievements as someone else though. I think I would feel a bit put off if someone was paying £2k OP each month lol. I would be very jelly indeed.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -

Totally agree on that sentiment, especially when no-one else really shares the enthusiasm. Its always a difficult to talk about with friends and family as most think we're mad doing what we're doing. So instead we just keep stum. We just get questions when people see the house picture on the fridge!!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0 -
I try to not talk much about my finances with friends. It's always an awkward subject. I don't exactly earn lots but because I'm so money focused (mortgage OP, playing the banks with current accounts/ offers etc) I always manage to save and make money where I can.
I don't know anyone personally who can be bothered to open current accounts and play the minimum payments/ 2DD's games, use cashback websites for their online purchases ... the list goes on. I seem to be the only one who does these things
And you are dead right about getting asked questions about the house picture on the fridge lol.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -
Hey lippy, just subscribed to your thread
Much belated congratulations on the wedding, and on the MF path so far.
That is a huge emergency fund - nice work!
We have a few friends that are interested in the MF path, but most are happy with the standard mortgage arrangements - although I think people are generally starting to get a bit more savvy. I think if there is something like a hike in interest rates we may find a few more people on this board!Mortgage free target: 2030
