Yes, Alex, he's been skiing in Italy (week away) and a war tour of France (5 days), plus other UK residential trips. It's the seemingly high cost for this one that I was commenting on.

We try to keep water costs down by using eco settings on appliances and I don't wash the car like I used to (from every week to erm, nearly a year ). Water butt for the garden. As it's from July, it'll include DIYers use on the garden renovation too.
    Back on the DFW Wagon:

    CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
    CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
    Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/18

Didn't think it sounded too horrendous, really but if it is compared to the others perhaps you ought to ask the school for a breakdown of the costs?

Did you choose to have a meter or was it installed in the house before you moved there? Can't say I know what eco settings are on appliances but ours are all rather old now. :rotfl: Re. the car, one of my most hated jobs but do try to make an effort because I don't want them rotting away. Do at least hose the underneath once in a while. :)
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

It is what it is. All school residential trips tend to be expensive in comparison to MSE type breaks :) I'm sure there's stuff like insurance, tutors, equipment and a number of other things that we don't have to pay out for when it's a holiday/social break. Yet to receive the kit list too, so more expense nearer the time :)

This house had a meter, but previous one didn't and I had one fitted - was way cheaper than rates for us and on the SoLo rate which is no standing charge, but higher unit rates (cheaper overall if less than 75 units use) - that plan is being phased out by the water company, so our bill will automatically increase anyway :(

Dealer treats the car to an in and out clean and wash at it's service - not long until March for the next one :D. It did come with 5 free cleans too, so I made use of all of those back in 2014! Luckily it doesn't look too dirty..or maybe I'm just used to it :o

Dirt protects the paint from the bird muck - that is my excuse and I am sticking to it. When the birds stop dropping on it then you put it out in the first cloud burst that comes your way! Unless of course you can find someone who will deal with it free !

    :D

Works for door dings too as just scrapes a bit of dirt off and not the paint :rotfl:

Great idea...I'll hint at DS for Mothers Day, though by his frugalness I might only get a headlamp wipe :rotfl:

    Hi Cath

Thanks for popping in, I'll update on the extension tonight as quite a bit of progress in last 24 hours.

And need to post my February capital payment and figures as that went off today :j

    Been a busy one :)

It's MOP Day once more :j £800 capital gone this month, an OP of £115.68.

Also saving £400 in the 4% account to get that growing back up to £5k again and £250 to the 5% one. Need to pay myself first though :rotfl: (will do that tonight!).

    Scores on doors:

    Jan £111,625 - Feb £110,825

    Part 1 £19,400 goes down to £18,600
Part 2 £92,225 stays as is

Interest for February expected to be £239.20 - the full effect of the new 2.59% rate shall be felt :j

    Part 1 £39.85 p/m or £1.31 per day - that's more like it :D
    Part 2 £199.35 p/m or £6.56 per day

Bring on the £100s in March :j :D

Extension News - Structural Engineer popped over this morning for photos and a slight tweak of the plan.

Lots of conversations last night - another builder who wants to wait for tech drawings before quoting and then a couple of the DIY friends who are suggesting getting waterproof shell built and they'll do the rest (qualified in relevant trades). This will both spread the cost and save in labour charges - payment in lieu would be roast dinners and home made cake a la garden renovations :rotfl:. Downside is it'll take longer to do. Looking into it though and getting quotes for both full build and shell.

Weekly food shop is due, but could hold out until tomorrow if I can persuade DS to have a different breakfast. Working on it!

    Financials:
    Freepostcodelottery - checked
    Inbox £s - up at £17.24
Qmee - 22p in the pot

    Think that's it!

  • Nice numbers! :) Especially that new interest amount.

Good luck deciding on the extension options - I'd lean towards DIY but I'm a cheapskate. ;)

Great to be paying out £110 less interest :D so minimum OP has to include that amount and automatically knocks end date to September 26 - a year early is therefore guaranteed.

Chuffed, as just over 2 years ago I wondered how I was going to finish on time, let alone early.

I think I may have to go shell route as want to save enough to pay for it and not borrow, but has to be started within the 3 years of PP granted. Meeting that is going to be a race :)
