    Afternoon

Thank you to those who wished me well for this morning. It doesn't always come across well on screen, but it's a huge comfort to know people are thinking of you :heart2:

News......some bad and some good.....depending on how you look at things. I did go in there knowing I wasn't coming out with a batman sticker for a clean bill of health

Bad news....My diagnosis is Smouldering Multiple Myeloma.
I won't go into all the nitty gritty of it mostly because I don't fully understand in enough detail myself yet. But in short myeloma is a bone marrow cancer. It's a term I feel in my head I might have seen in the past on documents at work and paid no heed to what it actually was.

The good news is the smouldering part. I thought it might have just been added as a personal description of myself......but no :p It means that although I have MM it hasn't progressed to a stage where it has damaged any of my major organs or caused significant bone damage. That's good news! My liver and kidneys are working fine, my calcium levels are good, I'm not anaemic and other than 2 very minor lesions on my spine, I have no significant bone damage.

So no heavy duty treatment needed at this stage. I (probably like most people) thought if you blasted any sort of cancer early, it would improve your chances. But apparently with this, there is no merit to having invasive treatments until the disease progresses.

It would seem that the smouldering thing is a bit of a piece of string scenario. No way of second guessing progression. My head isn't in the correct place yet for me to decide if that's good or bad.

So the plan now is for me to see a bone specialist with a view to starting me on some drugs that slow down bone deterioration. Other than that I will be 'actively monitored' which for the foreseeable (assuming the blood tests I had today are ok) means attending the cancer unit every 8 weeks and having blood tests and bone marrow tests if required _pale_

I'm also seeing someone next week to get more detailed information and advice on what to look out for myself.

I guess the only way I can see to be dealing with this is business as usual. I can't sit worrying for what could be months or years that every twinge is bad news. I feel fortunate that this was picked up early and being monitored so closely is re-assuring.
I'm young in terms of the age group that this disease generally affects and other than a few aches and pains I'm otherwise fit and healthy.
FC sorry to hear about your news. Sending positive thoughts xx

I can see that 20 people had thanked my M list (on page 3, on 40 posts setting) so that some people may be using it and it be useful to some (I've probably misread the situation d'oh:rotfl:). I'm not checking again this week: I would have done the Wednesday but this Wednesday is another busy day for me (sigh) and not much seems to be have changed. I've put a note onto the list, which remains at 5th August, and I think it's still fairly useful.
I'm not seeing any point checking next Monday for the sake of two days, though it's possible it may be somewhat out-of-date until I catch up two days later (on my current plan).
I noticed yesterday the large 12.5Kg bags of potatoes, which have been unavailable in M for a number of weeks, have now appeared back but sadly they are full price.

Have a nice day if you can, if not, I hope you're well soon and I'll see you all later!
    Bye now:wave:.

I'm off to bed. Thank you for all the hugs, the practical advice and the road traffic advice :p

I'm going to work in the morning and going shoe shopping in the afternoon. Cross everything for me because if the Clarks outlet can't help I'm looking at the best part of £100 in shoes/trainers _pale_ at full price. They have THE BEST measuring service though so I still have to go.

thinking about it - its a total miracle that your condition was picked up at all with no symptoms at all except for the dramatic weight lose which as you said could have more than one cause anyway - it was a total fluke that it was picked up in a blood test.

Just makes you wonder how many of us are walking around with a time bomb ready to go off in 30 or 40 years time ...

Can anyone recommend a cheap broadband, landline + phone deal?

My EE bill has just gone from approx £8pm to £30pm

I'm thinking about going with sky IF they give me a hefty discount on the TV, cancelled the TV last year and they keep offering 50% off but I'm not happy with that :rotfl:

    edit:

this is the monthly deal that has just ran out, plus usually around £5 in calls.

    Customer Discount -£ 7.450
Broadband & Weekend Calls - Monthly Price Plan £ 25.700
Line Rental Saver Benefit -£ 15.750
    Total £ 2.500

    edit2:

'My Sky' part of the sky website is still offering me 'Come back to Sky and get 50% off any TV Bundle.'
I really hate talking to them over the phone but may have to! :o

well I've tidied under the stairs, the make up corner, behind the study sofa and under the dining table, vaccumed and sorted out my crisp stash - out of date walkers, Jacobs crackers crisps for buzz, Tyrells crips and popcorn that I won and various crisps bought as fillers to use wallkers MOCs

And now for the really exciting bit - sorting out bags of years old receipts

Yes I am keeping myself fully occupied so I don't have time to think - only a week now until eldest son goes off on exercise again for a few months

Not totally sure if he is going to be back next weekend so today could be D Day as he is going south back to base this afternoon ready for tomorrow ...
