It really is futile posting messages on this site regarding your flat mate and seeking advice and you still after all this time have not done anything about the situation.

Either accept the situation or get on do something about it. The solution is in your hands.

OP hasn't actually posted since 17/08/07, the day they started the thread. So hardly fair to say they've not done anything "after all this time" - presumably there is something happening and they just haven't posted about it in a while.

get a safe i have. my sil kept coming around things like this was happening, only when she was about. when i lived at my mil house she came around next day my chain was gone and my body spray. at first i thought i had mis placed my chain. i got it off my nan for my 18th so it expensive. my oh , mum got drunk toldme when i go to work she goes in my room and thru my stuff. i packed my stuff and left the next day so did my oh........ epople are f***ed up and you will never find out the truth, in your heart you know its him.... sorry idont know what to say. safe it the best bit. about£20 to £30 with code on the front, .nail it down someone safe like inside your wardorbe
i will be debt free, i will
  • I would talk to the person, and tell him money has being going missing from your room. Watch his body language, and see what he says. If he doesn't say anything, tell him it is suspiscious that only 3 of you were in the house.

If he is stealing from you, then you can't comfortably continue sharing a house with him. What if you leave jewellery lying around or you come home from work and find your computer gone? You need to sort this out now.

I like the trap idea and you could fast track it if you left a purse with a marked note in a public area (kitchen or whatever). However, you'd be best putting it somewhere in view of the camera.

If you confront him, make sure your partner is around in case he doesn't 'take it well'.

I don't see why you should have to spend money on a safe - better to get rid of someone stealing from you. Although, getting a lock for your door (once he's gone - if he is stealing from you) is a good idea. That's if the landlord is ok with it.

My husband and I had a guy sharing our house (letting off us) who ran up 2000 euro of phone calls while we were off in Australia getting married/on honeymoon. We came back to find phone bill after phone bill and him gone. Since the phone was in my husband's name and the flatmate didn't have an official lease with us (just a verbal agreement), my husband had to pay the bill.

You really need to be careful who you share your home with and you need to watch out for warning signs, or it could be more money or something irreplaceable next time.
