What are the current tactics for dealing with basic speeding tickets ?

I appealed a ticket maybe 10+ years ago, doing 36mph in 30 zone, and used Pepipoo website back then.

Can't remember how it was back then, there was a standard tactic of replying regarding format of ticket or having to give details.

I used that then and never heard back from police.
Doubtful if that tactic still applies, can someone confirm ?

This time was doing 40mph on 30 dual carriage way.

What are current tactics ?

  • Plead insanity.

  • Times have moved on. Unless there are some rare procedural errors, the tickets are not particularly defensible - especially when you know you were speeding so you'd have to lie in court to defend - not wise!

The only successful defences tend to be when there is something odd gone on and there is good reason to suspect the charge really was wrong, though very some people have gone a high risk route and bamboozled magistrates in court - though they usually win because of the poor police presentation (6 months after a trivial event, the police are not going to be convincing) or poor CPS performance rather than the actual strength of the case.

Peppipoo still your best avenue for advice, just in case there is a wrinkle.

Send back the form and take the speed awareness course.

Pay £100 and take three points.

Go to pepipoo and be told the same are the current tactics.

I used the PACE Witness Statement in 2006 before it reached ECHR and this method was finally settled in June 2007.

    The tactics are:
    -Post details on MSE.
    -Read sanctimonious tosh responses.
    -Do speed awareness course.
-[STRIKE]Look harder for the camera/van next time [/STRIKE] Never speed again.

That does sum up some verbal diarrhoea posts !

Strange thing is I did see camera, I just had momentary lapse and thought 40mph limit, not 30.

so you have no defence then.
Do the honest thing and take it on the chin.
Look at it another way you were caught at over 30% over the limit.

I had a similar thing in 2012, albeit a police car waiting to catch people rather than a fixed camera. Dual carriageway road with 30 limit and I was clocked doing 40. :(

4 months later the same road became a 40 limit!
