Alternative to Microsoft Money?

Options
Does anyone use software to keep track of their money? I have been using Microsoft Money but Windows 10 doesn't seem to like it! Any recommendations please?

Is this in order to interact directly with your accounts online? I only use Money offline and can't see any reason whatsoever why it would need IE6 or any other browser.

Have you tried reloading MS Money from the disc onto W10 ?

  • I've ordered a new windows 10 2 in 1 laoptop and am needing to use MM as I have for the last 10 years so if it doesn't work I'll have to send it the laptop back. I only use it offline too.

I think I'd better try loading it onto my partners Windows 10 laptop before I open the new one and I'm grateful for the tip off that it might not work!

I'll also watch this thread with interest.

Whatever I do I can't get any version of Money to work. The Money Plus Sunset download leads to an installation OK, but when I run the software, it tells me that it needs components of IE6.
I downloaded Money2005-UK-QFE2.exe.exe with the same result.
In despair, I took out the trusty initial CD, Money for Win 95, now 24 years old. That installed OK but seems to need me to start all over again. I have a 10Mb file, current.mny, in a folder away from the Money setup but when I double-click on that, I am told it is either corrupted or not a valid Money file. Same happens when I double-click the (now not Read-only) backup file, current Backup 12.10.mbf
So I have a new laptop which came with Win8.1. I copied the contents of my old laptop, a Win7 thing, lock stock and barrel, into a virtual thing on the new machine where Money ran perfectly. Then I updated to Win10 and I am in trouble with Money. I really don't want to keep the old laptop as it is getting unreliable.
    Any advice?

I have had the same problem and found the registry hack mentioned above on the Microsoft Money Forum. Apparently Money worked in the testing beta phase of W10 but it does not in the final version that consumers have downloaded.

I really didn't want to make any alterations to the registry in case of future problems with any future updates Microsoft want to make to the operating system. Therefore I have decided to not take any chances with my computer and have downloaded and purchased a copy of AceMoney which looks and acts almost identically to MS Money.

I had 18 years of MS Money transactions and reports to import and following the instructions on the website they imported absolutely correctly on the very first try.

Sounds amazing, and the product looks really good. I might try it as eventually I suppose I can't avoid moving. I just dread the migration as I have dozens and dozens of accounts to move - how many did you migrate?

I think I had about 20 odd accounts. Some were live and the rest were old closed accounts going back over the 17 years.
