I've just had same experience with paypal & mobile solved. Why are paypal still offering their services? Anyone got a link for free/cheap unlock provider for Sony Ericsson K800i please?

I have complained to Ebay with regard to people selling unlocking calculators for numerous phones, for about £2.50 each, and putting a disclaimer saying that the codes only work 90% of the time. They advertise phones such as latest SonyEricssons, Latest Nokias and Samsungs.

I have spent £100's of pounds buying equipment to unlock these phones and hey have high security, and cannot just be unlocked by code, unless it is from your SP.

These codes that people sell cheaply will only work for older Nokia's.

1000's of people are paying £2.50 each for nothing, but as its a small amount they dont take it much further, and the company make easy money.

With regard to your K800i, it depends on the software version. If it is CID 49 or 51 I charge £10 + return postage by Special Delivery. (£5) If it is the newer CID 52 or CID 50 version the cost is £35 + return postage. (£5) and can take 3 working days to generate the codes. Unfortunately the only way of telling the software version is by plugging it into my PC and unlocking equipment.
  • Thanks for all your comments. I've had a refund from paypal and even had a reply from mobile solved. I got redirected to another site where I was advised that I needed to ship my phone to be unlocked.
I've reached the end of my contract with my SP and taken out a new contract (with new phone). They want £15 for the puk code. Is this legal when I have fulfilled the contract and effectively bought the phone. Is there a regulatory body that would have a view on this?

A puk is for unblocking your phone - is your phone blocked? If it is, then provided you can establish your id etc, then the network will normally unblock it for you by giving you the puk.

But if your contract has ended, maybe it is not blocked, but locked to the original network.

Do you mean the PAC? If so, then service providers are allowed to charge for a PAC, but most don't.

The whole thing stinks and the people involved need to be bought to justice... If they really only deal with Nokias' it should be stated clearly on both sites, e.g. sometimes Google will describe easy-unlocking as "Unlock any phone on any network Use any Sim instantly".

When I payed my money for the phone code, I did so believing that a 'Google sponsored link' was somehow endorsed and said to be reliable by Google... Obviously this isn't the case and should be noted for the future! Feel like a bit of a fool for thinking that now... but we've all been suckered in I guess...

And If they only deal with nokias why did they let me select "Samsung D500" from the drop down menu  ?? Hmm, Very dodgy. Also don't think they can legally say that they won't refund you if the phone is not on the list as there shouldn't be an option to order for that phone! - What a bunch of muppets.

I thought the google link gave them more credability too, so I emailed google but don't think I'll get a response as I could only find one contact link and it said not to use it unless it was a security issue but I did anyway.

Got a clip from ebay in the end for £8 and unlocked 2 phones with it so worked out £4 each, may also resell the clip on ebay so in the end it won't have cost much at all. Will always unlock from hardware from now on.

    p.s, a big :T :T :T to everyone that got a refund.
    =========

I actually googled the company before I purchased but it didn't bring up any results, yet when I googled mobilesolved after I was scammed it brought up this thread, so with that in mind I'm going to put random words here so that it may show up in google results.

easy unlocking mobilesolved mobile solved alledged scam fake fraud hoax ripoff rip off unlock mobile phone easy unlocking code imei cellphone mobile unlock scam unlock any sim any network warn avoid do not bother waste of time and money no contact network unlock unlocking mobile phone easy unlocking easy avoid don't do it low cost no service sale scam easy easy unlocking easy-unlocking
  • I think you only need a pac code if you want to keep your number, so you could just put another sim in and wouldn't need to pay.

If you mean they want £15 to unlock your phone to remove the network lock, you can probably find a cheaper or even free way on the net depending on the phone ;).

BTW, I got my clip from this ebay trader: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/UNLOCK-MOBILEPHONES and it came quickly and worked, so may be worth contacting them and ask what is the best solution for unlocking your phone.
  • Another website that sells unlocking clips is: http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/

I'd check out the link from Zoe2006 (previous post) first though, as that may be a bit cheaper. I can vouch for the reliability of fonefunshop though as I've just received an unlocking clip for a Samsung D900i (also does E250, E250e & E250v models), this arrived the next day after ordering.

The clip solution only take a few seconds and is meant to unlock 100% of that model. Was really easy I can tell you! I believe it even works on those phones that have had an incorrect unlock code entered too many times (which locks it 'permanently' to the original provider- meaning you can no longer type in unlock codes...)

As mentioned, I might try to sell it on now I've used it, via Ebay and get most of the money back maybe. It did cost £9.99 + £2.50 signed delivery, so it's not the cheapest solution, but I didn't fancy trying another online code provider - which is all thanks to dealing with mobilesolved/easy-unlocking.

fonefunshop also sell some firmware flash software and leads, which can put your phone back to its original, supposedly faster, software and debrand it (getting rid of say,'Virgin' logos etc...). Not bothered with buying that though (or brave enough :p ) but may be a factor if you're reselling phone in future...
  • Many thanks for this site and all the info. I got my money back and was motivated to do this after reading all the comments. To help anyone else this is what to
To open a dispute, please follow these steps:
    1. Log into your account at
    https://www.paypal.co.uk/
    2. Select the 'Resolution Centre' subtab.
    3. Click 'Report a Problem'.
    4. Select 'Item dispute'.
    5. Click 'Continue'.
    6. Enter or select the transaction ID for the transaction you would like to dispute.
    7. Review the transaction information and select a reason for opening the dispute.
    8. Enter in the details of the transaction and initiate communication with the seller in the 'Post New Message' box and click 'Post New Message'.
You can open a dispute up to 45 days after the transaction date. Disputes can be escalated to a claim any time within 20 days of the date the dispute was opened. By escalating a dispute to a claim, you are asking PayPal to review the case and decide the outcome. Often, buyers will escalate the dispute to a claim if they feel that they are unable to resolve it satisfactorily with a seller. Sellers might escalate to a claim if they would rather not communicate with a buyer or if they have evidence to support their belief that a buyer's claim is fraudulent.
To learn the processes of resolving a dispute please see the 'Resolution Centre Tutorials' in the 'Resolution Centre' of your PayPal account.

  • I must admit I've just found this thread as I've been caught in the same scam by

    https://www.unlockcentral.co.uk

This is another domain owned by the same company, in Edinburgh or Glasgow depending on whether you believe the Nominet data or Companies House.

Anyway reported them to Paypal, got a refund immediately. I presume they are working on the theory that most people won't bother! I really hate companies like this.
