I don't understand it. There have been so many redundancies in the oil industry. Maybe these job losses haven't been counted yet.

Job losses are sampled on a quarterly basis. Larger companies such as those in the oil industry are likely to be sampled more accurately.

Announcements can take years to turn into actual losses. Business units will need to be restructured. Unions will be involved. Some losses will be through natural attrition. Others there'll be a process that employees will need to go through. Some of the losses we've encountered have involved people working through a 11 month notice period. Which means the whole process took around 18 months from start to finish.

There aren't that many oil jobs in Scotland because it doesn't take that many people to run the industry.

A bit like power stations. A ccgt is run with just 40 full time staff even though it can power and meet the needs if a city of over 1 million people and businesses

And the related direct support staff and service industries?

Major announcements have a ripple down effect.

The industry as a whole does not employ a lot of people. Thats not just Scotland thats worldwide. How else can the industry afford to pay in some cases over 90% royalties and function?

Deception used to obtain money etc in the vast number of cases.

That's not an answer to either of the questions.
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

The number of people claiming unemployment in Aberdeen city is currently 1.4% and in Aberdeenshire 0.8%.

It was. Stating one is homeless either to the police or the general public when they are not is deception.

90% of the people busking on the streets down here have been found not to be homeless at all. Some make as much as £100 to £150 a day.

So what? Busking is the act of performing in public places, is a long-established occupation and is not the prerogative of the homeless. Some buskers are rubbish but many are very good at what they do.

I'll never forget travelling down a long escalator on the London Underground to the accompaniment of what sounded like an entire steel band somewhere at the bottom - when I got there it turned out to be just one lad, with half a dozen drums, for whom the acoustics were working very well. He was damned good too.

If some homeless people choose to use one of their talents to try and earn themselves enough to buy some food or what have you, I say good luck to them. If they are half-decent they'll get some dosh out of me as well.
At least they are making an effort which is more than the ones are doing who just sit on a step, often with a mangy mutt, mumbling "spare a bit of change, please?"
