text sent to me by mistake.what would you do?

i have received a text from an unknown number and I don't know what to do. it appears to be from a male to his male friend talking about catching his wife/partner/gf "at it" and how he is going to "finish it and sell the house".

now do i just delete it and pretend i didn't get it or do i warn the sender that he sent it to me by mistake thereby making sure i don't get any more embarrasing texts before they get more personal?

I would do nothing. If you don't know him, it ain't YOUR problem ;)

Of course, if you keep getting texts, then do let him know he is texting the wrong number!!! :)

I would ignore it. It seems unlikely that a text like that would be sent to someone who's number needs to be typed in - it would be someone already in the address book. Therefore I would assume this is some kind of fishing exercise to see if the number they sent it to is in use. I'd suspect a reply would result in lots of spam.

I've had similar happen to me (different text content, but that's not relevant), and just texted the sender back saying they'd got the wrong number. Didn't cost me anything as I've got unlimited free texts, and only took a few seconds of my time. I'd like to think someone would do the same for me if I got a friend's number wrong.

I had a series of them one Christmas from somebody who had obviously just been stood up. Each one got more and more 'colourful' with the sender ranting about his/her texts being ignored.

I always text back with 'sorry, think you've got the wrong number'. Annoys me when people don't do that (e.g. ebay purchases etc).

Never text back to messages like this as it can be spammers.

The moment you text back, they will then know your mobile number is a real/in use one, and you'll find your yourself being inundated with unsolicited texts I'm afraid.

Another reason not to respond, is you have no idea how much that text reply will cost you - it might be a premium rate SMS, in which case you will be charged outside of your 'free' text allowance.
