Vodafone/Three customers - you can get the networks to come pick up your faulty phone off you and exchange it for another one of the same model (will be reconditioned though). They will either go to your home address or one that you specify - whichever is easier for you. Three are a lot more reluctant about doing though, but will do if you refuse to be sent to where you got the phone from. Three also pickup phones for repair and drop them back off to you, which will usually be quicker taking it back to where you bought it from.

My mortgage was with Britannia BS. A few months ago they took my payment twice. As soon as I noticed I rang them and was basically messed around by them saying it would be 14 days before they could refund me. I therefore contacted my bank as was issued a refund under the direct debit scheme.
Exactly the same thing happened the following month.
I therefore wrote a stinking letter to Britannia demanding £250 compensation for my inconvenience - expecting that I might get maybe £25.
Within a week I had a letter of appology AND a cheque for £250.

It just goes to show that it is always worth complaining about bad service, and to always state what you expect in way of compensation, rather than just accepting what you are offered.

If you are given an item as a present & not suitable wrong fit/ dont like etc..
Or you buy something and have lost receipt you can always take it back and get vouchers or exchange for the current till price! No problems!

However if you buy something & keep hold of receipt there is no 28days limit you can return it whenever and get the price you paid refunded!

Heres the most interesting part however, if you buy an item in the summer sale last year at say £7.49 and it had a full price of £14.99
If you wait say 9-12 months (basically at least whole season from when you bought it, to help inside label it will say which yr & season its from ie s/s05 meaning spring summer 2005)

You can then return it this year without receipt & get exchange or vouchers of till price which will now have reverted to original full price!

If for any reason price is not at least what you paid or were expecting just make your excuses to the sales assistant and say I paid more & will look for your receipt!

The ammount of people that do this is amazing! But make sure you take the reduced price sticker off the tag or else the sales assistant will reduce price of refund to what sticker says!!

Also worth knowing if you pay in nectar vouchers & want to return an item you can get gift vouchers back instead!

adams used to mark all the clothes by way of a permanant red dot on the label to indicate they've been reduced..... i just checked something that i bought last week reduced and it was not marked at all so it may work for what your suggesting...but personally i think it would be cheeky and dishonest as there quality is very good for there sales are consistant and at times as low as 70% ...i just wish there were more branches locally available!

Next also do the `red dot on the label' trick, to show something was purchased in a sale.
  • Great thread, I hope MSE admins make a best of these stories and solutions in an article.

And to back many of the posters, complaining, quoting correct law and demanding compensation where warranted will return good will gestures in return 80%+ of the time.

    Hi,

I got a good deal from O2 the other month.

I have two contracts with them for 200 cross net minutes. I bought a new phone from Vodaphone and rang up O2 to cancel the contracts. They put me through to their retention department. The woman on the other end of the phone said that if I keep the contracts on for 12 months but at a reduced rate of £6 per month for 20 crossnet minutes and 20 texts that she would credit both accounts with £80. That is a profit of £8 per account. I then said that one of the phones does not work. So she offered me a brand Sony Erricson K700i.

Now thats what I call a bargain.

I don't know if they still have this offer but I believe they expect you to give the phone to your children who will run up a massive bill.

yeah i too got good deal when i tried to cancel my contract with them asfter getting a new, heavly discounted contract from vodafone......they offered me 300 off peak mins and 500 texts for £10, but credited my account with £100, so i only pay £20 for the whole year! also, if i wanty to renew this deal at the end of this contract. they said they would credit my account with another £100......my mum was well chuffed when i offered it to her to use :j

Here's one for people who eat breakfast at Tesco and other such cafes... Most will offer a 3 items for x, 4 items for y etc. It's worth adding the individual cost of items up as it may be cheaper to buy your food this way, e.g. 3 items for 1.10, two toast + beans = 58p. This can also apply to various meal deals in fast food outlets, so look for this.

    Here are my findings:
    1) If you have a Dyson vacuum cleaner and a part of it breaks, ring up their customer services and let them know (even if it's past your 12 month guarantee) and they will send you a new part out, free!

    2) If you have a Brabantia push top bin, they are guaranteed for 10 years. The lid of mine broke, so I rung up their customer service department and they sent me out a free lid! (They don't need a proof of purchase as they haven't been around for 10 years).

    3) If you are a member of the Armed forces, ask for a discount in any shop, restaurant, hotel, theme park etc. A lot of places do not advertise the fact, but we have saved loads of money over the years!!
Just yesterday we got a better exchange rate when we bought Euros at Going Places for this reason!!

    Hi
I'm intrigued to know what happens to all the DVDs that are donated to charity shops. Every time I enter one there are plenty of Cds & videos but never a sign of a DVD!

Is there something the Charity shops are not telling us?? Any one in the 'know' who can enlighten me? Or maybe DVDs are rarely donated?

(I trust this is the right forum for the enquiry)
