Carrier bag ripoff

i wont be paying for any bags.
Then you will either have to i) remember to bring your own bags for re-use (the object of the compulsory charge for bags) or ii) carry your shopping tucked under your arms or iii) never go shopping again and starve to death.
As no-one is forcing you to buy any bags if you don't want to, what is your complaint? Just stock up with a lifetime's supply now whilst they are free (in England) and remember to take one with you. And everyone's happy!0 -
just another way for osborne and his banker mates to overcharge the public for mistakes they didnt make it the first place..

What happens with for instance Aldi, who already charge for plastic bags? Do they now go up to 10p, or does part of the 5p they've always received for a bag now have to be donated to a good cause?
Just asking out of interest as I've been re-using bags for years.0 -

Your question piqued my interest, so I had a little look.

Apparently Aldi charge 3p just now, which will go up to 5p (or maybe already has). They will be donating the 5p to RSPB.
It's not clear from this whether they would be "forced" to donate 5p per bag to charity if they had chosen not to. However, they say "From Januray 2016, the same [donation to charity] will apply to Scotland". The Scottish carrier bag charge has been in since October last year, but the guidance only states:
"The Scottish Government is encouraging retailers to donate the proceeds from this charge to good causes in Scotland, particularly environmental good causes."
So companies aren't being forced to give the charge to charity.
The guidance for the future English charge says: "Once you’ve deducted reasonable costs, it’s expected that you’ll donate all proceeds to good causes." So it's not clear how much donating to charity will be enforced.

I wont be using any retailer that tries to charge me 5p for a bag its not as if there are going to be inspectors checking every shop. i am already paying through the nose to shop at these places there is no reason to rip us off more by charging a ridiculous new fee.0

According to the direct.gov website link posted above if the retailer already charges 5p (or above) then there's no need to increase it by another 5p.
I work in a shop (so we're exempt from the ruling according to the information in the link above) but I really wish some of our customers wouldn't ask for a bag when they really don't need one (i.e. small bottle of pop and a packet of crisps!)It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history.
