Carrier bag ripoff
Comments
-
Carrier bags will be 5p in England from 5th Oct from any place that has more than 250 employees working for the company. So supermarket chains and High Street names will charge. But if you go to an independent shop, they will be free.
There are a few exceptions to getting a free bag such as when buying a knife as don't want to scare the public. Plus if you have a load of prescription medication - though most do put them in a paper bag for privacy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Another non issue thread, its 5p suck it up, teach your kid to say no in future.
May as well teach him to say no now.0 -
I tend to stock up on the £1 tesco bags. They even have a lifetime guarantee so you can simply swap them once they are tatty.
Rarely do I go to the shops without a bag, on the odd occasion I do; rather than buy a 5p cling film style bag, I just buy another £1 one for my collection.
5p is worth nothing these days, its the kind of change I either throw in the donation box, tip jar or simply say "keep the change".:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

One reason they charge is to cut down on discarded plastic which can throttle the life out of wildlife. Turtles mistake them floating around for jellyfish, swallow them and die. Cut down on this sh'ite plastic and save the planet.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Rule of BoP, chapter 23 verses 12 to 14

Most kids throw these away nowadays. I used to enjoy getting an early morning paper and picking up the loose change that the kids, waiting for schoolbus, threw chucked on the ground after they had bought sweets/fags etc from the shop.
Its a small price to pay to teach a kid the value of being prepared instead of polluting the environment with used (once) plastic bags.I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
I'm assuming that they will do it the same way as in Wales. They ask if you want a bag BEFORE they have scanned anything through
I've seen a customer buy a single, small bottle of water which is automatically put into a plastic bag. The customer walked 10 feet from the shop entrance and put the bag in the bin.0 -
Copied from BBC ni news website
A levy on single-use carrier bags was introduced in Northern Ireland in 2013.
The year before the 5p charge was imposed, 190 million carrier bags were issued by NI supermarkets.
Last year, that had fallen to 30 million - a 42.6% annual reduction following a previous drop of 71%, after the carrier bag charge was introduced.0 -
Should be a lot more than 5p. Its a disgrace.0
