I have only been driving for just over 3 years. I have had one crash in bad weather (car was a right-off) by using different comparison sites I got my insurance down from £540 to £299.
Yes, you found the cheapest quote from the people who paid them to advertise (paid on sales).
So the comparison site took a chunk of the money you paid to the insurer. You could possibly (not in all cases) have paid less and not given your cash to a middle man.
I'm not having a go at anyone who wishes to use them, but must point out that they only refer you to those who pay them, leaving all the others out.0 -
I was quoted £299 with the AA on the comparison site. When I went to their website they said it would be £340 for the same policy. Please Thank Me

Won't be the same, different length of time, different excess etc.0

I did this exercise yesterday on compare.com as I'm up for renewal at the end of the month. I still found my current provider Norwich Union Direct cheaper by far, with breakdown cover. A £37.00 difference (confusing)0

must admit im with swiftcover.com and they are really really cheap and never had any issues with them at allSavings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580

we tried confused.com etc, but in the end went with direct line, we got a better deal and lower excess. Direct line does not give quotes to online comparison sites. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

but absolutely useless when it comes to getting their money back from the 3rd party insurers even when 3rd party insurer admitted liability. Into my 3rd month and still waiting.0 -

Indeed. I paid the higher excess in order to keep my premium low. Someone drove into me and I'm getting very little help from them. Wouldn't use them again.0 -
