returning duplicate items

Hi,
I was hoping somebody could advise me on the lawfulness of what I want to do as a solution to a problem.
I ordered a Cohorted beauty box which arrived last weekend. On Tuesday I had a note from Hermes through the door & it turned out a second had been delivered. As their packaging is unmarked I opened it & yes it was a duplicate. I emailed them and told them I had a duplicate saying I would return it, but at their expense.
On Wednesday I had an email which was to all subscribers asking them to post the duplicates back & send them a copy of the receipt for a refund. They said it was a courier issue..
Anyway. I fail to see why I should spend my lunch hour queuing in the post office & then wait for them to send me a refund.
So what I want to do is email them telling the box is at home if they would like to pay for Hermes to collect it to take it back (Hermes is cheaper than the post office anyway). Is it lawful to tell them if they want it they can come and get it? They have twice failed to respond to emails so I hold out little hope for a refund if i send it back in the way they have asked.
Thanks

Not only is it lawful, IMO it is the most sensible option for you.
All that the law requires you to do is to make the goods available for the retailer to collect and this must be at their expense and your convenience.
I fail to see how the problem could be the fault of the courier unless that courier went into the packing room of Cohorted and put your details on the 2nd shipment.0 -
So you are being awkward when they have said they will refund for postage.
Plus why not prepay online (get the receipt) email it in then fast drop it at the post office.0 -

Fast Drop is not available at all post offices, I have not found one yet on any of my work routes. On the few occasions I do still have to go to the PO in person I can easily spend 30-45 minutes queuing. I do print my postage online, but to get a receipt I have to queue along with everyone else, which si why I now have an arrangement with a mail centre instead.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. What's being awkward about not wanting to spend one's own time queuing up in a post office especially if the only opportunity you get is during your lunch break?0 -
I'd have more faith they will refund if they didn't ignore my emails.... I am happy to drop it off if they pre pay. Just not happy to wait for a refund.0

I disagree.
Lots of people would lose their entire unpaid lunch time taking something to the post office, not to mention petrol costs and parking in some areas.
If the company want their item back, then can prepay postage so OP can post it when convenient, or they can arrange a courier to collect when the OP is available.
The OP should not be expected to pay upfront to return it - they should send postage money first if they want it back.
How much was the item?
We had the same issue a couple of years ago, and the ebay seller ended up sending a courier to DH's work to collect the duplicate item, although it was a rather large item!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
It was £20.
I am going to offer to drop it at one of the Hermes drop off points (a local shop) if they pre pay for it. I think that's more than fair.
I won't be buying from them again. Their customer service is dreadful0 -

Flippin' cheek!
When they say it is a courier issue, what do they mean?0 -

Because it might be some time before the OP gets their money back and why should they be the ones who has to put themselves out for the retailer's mistake?0 -

Who knows... How would the courier have my goods & details if they didn't give them to them.
I work in a city centre. To use the central post office would wipe my lunchtime out.
I am not being awkward. I have been honest and have the item waiting for their courier. After all if its the couriers fault they can put it right.
This is what their email said :-
"Hey guys,
Firstly, we hope everybody is loving the July Beauty Box?
The reason we're emailing is, Its come to our attention that due a mistake with our courier some of you might have received duplicate orders or incorrect orders.
If you've received an incorrect box(s) we'd be super grateful if you could please return it item to:
