Tidied my cupboards on wednesday when unable to sleep and have discovered that I am stockpiling again, a steady build up of food stuff.

So I may be able to miss a Mr t order for a week and just buy milk and bread and live a week for free. Wonder if anyone in the house would even notice?

Need to use up egg glut, make cakes for freezer, get some pie dishes filled and frozen and make life easier for later!

A £6 spend for me yesterday on Fairy Washing powder. It was reduced from £9. Only ever buy it on offer. My eldest son has funny skin and its the only one we can use.

Today is weekly food shop day. Husband is still on holiday from work so wish me luck!!

    Evening all :hello:

Please feel free to ask anything as there will usually be someone on here to point you in the right direction. Often we all learn something as well - one of the benefits of this lovely friendly thread :D

Ooh - please can you tell me which you have as I've been thinking about getting one (can't cook rice for toffee) but a bit bewildered by the choice. Want one that cooks all types of rice.

Had another NSD here today. We had some of the beef chilli, me with courgette strips and DH had potato waffles. It was really good and DH said I could add a bit more chilli next time - couldn't believe it as he always says he doesn't like 'hot' food.

Hope you all have a super Thursday

I cook my rice in the micro. I have a plastic vented container into which I put 8oz of any rice value/basmati/thai cover with 1 and a half pints of boiling water, add salt stir and whack on full power for 5 mins. Stir and full power again for 5 mins. Long grain and brown take 6 mins, stir and 6 mins. Used in variuos voltage micros and this method never fails. No need to pre rinse just pour off excess water at the end and rinse through with hot water to remove excess starch.

Meant to say my husband spent £1.50 on milk and sugar on Wednesday, bringing our total spend to £59.06/£120 on food.

He is going to pick up beer (from another budget) plus coffee, crisps, potatoes and rolls after work. Hopefully he sticks to the list as our budget is VERY tight this month...

Planning to do some batch cooking and baking this weekend. Blackcurrant bush is still fruiting so thinking of making mini blackcurrant pies to freeze as sweet snacks/desserts, hopefully it works well.

  • oh lordy sooner my kids go back to school next week the better they are eating me out of house and home. added up my wee top ups of bread/milk and fruit from through the week and spent another £31.55  off for the weekly shop this afternoon so will update that figure later on.

  • Did the main part of the weekly shop early last night. Blueberries were on offer so I stocked up for the freezer and for making jam and I got a ton of peaches that were on special too. Spent $29 which I was happy with, but I still need to get rice and fresh fruit on Sunday. Planning to batch cook mac and cheese for when the baby arrives and that is coming out of this month's budget even though we won't eat it until October.

Our grocery stores don't reduce anything here which is frustrating. I was thinking I should go and check the prices in Ald! instead of always using the store that is closest to us, but I never pass it and I'd have to make a trip just to go there. Might be worth it though! They are building an Ald! near our house so hopefully it will be finished soon!

Thanks for all the rice tips. I'm going to try again! :)
