Good point, but I don't think the desire to have a German car extends to this end of the market.0 -

The British market seems to relate very well to VW, BMW etc. Why on earth would they not relate to Opel?
and if as you say the lower end of the market doesn't aspire to German cars, why do they aspire to any brand? Skoda, Hyundai, Dacia are all highly successful despite their uncool brands. I just can't quite work out who these people are who think Vauxhall is a good brand!0 -
Vauxhall and Ford are considered to be the pride and joy of British motoring heritage, for the masses. Predominantly you'll find the British working and middle class who prefer a Vauxhall/Ford to others mainly for nationalist views as they are 'British' motoring brands- in the sense that they're manufactured in Britain. Also Ford/Vauxhall are often in the lower price segment in the used market, weaker residual values in spite of the fact that when new, they're priced similarly to new Japanese cars.0

Mind, you'll also may have noticed a trend in the past decade of the middleclass who strive to own German cars like Audi/BMW/Mercedes.0

That's because they are aimed at a different market.0
