I wanted a train set but my mother said I couldn't have one because they were boy's toys.

really! i got a toy train set for Christmas before my third birthday - i don't think my Dad could wait long enough for my brother to be born before buying one.
Later on when my brother was 7 my dad got him a proper hornby layout that very quickly expanded and took over the dining room - eventually Mum insisted she have the dining room back as we had been without nearly 10 years. Dad had plans drawn up for a 4th bedroom to be built on the flat roof of the downstairs extension. once finished the layout moved into the new room - today it has expanded to fill most of the room with a small space in the middle for dad to stand!!

    Dad's and their toys eh.

I loved dolls and at 12 I wanted a beautiful bride doll with a long white dress that smelt of perfume. However, that year my mother decided I was too old for dolls and I got an annual instead. I still remember the disappointment.
