  • I thoroughly agree that something needs to be done although I have no idea of the appropriate channels.

I read in the News of the World yesterday that Setanta have asked a woman to send a copy of her husbands death certificate in order for them to cancel the subscription.

I don't know if you are aware but there is another thread on this site with many others having the same problems cancelling, if it works I shall insert link below:

I'd just like to say thanks to 99% of people who've posted in this thread. We were considering getting setanta for the new football season. I can catigorically state that it's definately not going to happen now.

    Thanks again.

    SPREAD THE WORD!!
  • What a nightmare I am having, I should have read this forum first before signing up to Setanta. I signed up 3 days ago and asked for monthly direct debit. All went forward and i got Setanta no problems. The problems started yesterday when I received a letter form Setanta stating that they will take payment from my account. Wait for it £170.87 Annually payment. So of i went on the phone and by god what a run around I got, I was told thats what i signed up for not monthly, I know exactly what i signed up for and that was monthly, I am not in a position to sign up for yearly payments. So as it stands now I have canceled my Direct Debit because they made a mistake as the gent on the Sunderland Call center said, his manager told me to cancel DD and wait for someone to contact me and re set up monthly DD. I have emailed them and sending a letter by recorded delivery letting them know what I have done. Hope Ive done the right thing.

Any input would be very welcome.

    Thanks Dawn

I joined a year ago. The charges then were £14.99 a month but I joined under a promotion at the time where if Frankie Detorri won the Derby we got free membership for a year. He did and we did. The problems started when I phoned in May to cancel as the free year was up. I did not actually want to cancel but I was aware that I would be given an offer instead. I was given the choice of 3 months at £5 or 6 at £7.50. Took the latter. They then proceeded to take £9.99 off me in June. Trying to get them to correct this has been a nightmare. Many of the staff just lie to you when they state they will add a note to the account etc. Some are just plain stupid in their understanding of basic arithmetic. However, after much banging of head against brick wall, they now seem to be sticking to what they agreed would happen and this months payment of £5 went through as agreed. Now the £7.50 for 6 months should begin next month. However I must put Setanta up with the other two companies who made bits of life a misery for many months, Lineone and Telewest. Perhaps Setanta have employed their old customer relations managers.

Discharged on the 19th feb 2008
  • God i really feel sorry for you ppl tryin to cancel! :(
Working for Shitanta since March, and i have to agree with you all, asking for written notification to cancel is a F**king joke in this day & age!!!!

Im working in the 'Loyalty' dept this past month (new dept in N.I call centre) and its just a joke! Didnt have a choice in moving to work in this dept either, was in sales before hand... I know you are all prob thinking why dont i just leave if i dont like it so much... give me a job and im outta there like a shot!!
'Supervisors' and 'Managers' you all think you are speaking to, are more than likely not and jus give the names of one.... the reason for that is because the real S&M's dont wanna bother listening to 'crap' on the phone.

FYI for those of you still trying to cancel dont bother with emails, they have students sorting these out in our call centre who jus report these all as spam so they can get there amount of emails 'sorted' for the day... and as for someone saying they'll cancel you straight away, more than likely they will just say that to you to get you off the phone and go home (seen this dont 4 times just yesterday!!!!!!)

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL IN YOUR QUEST TO CANCELLING!!
  • Finally :rotfl::j :T

After several phone calls, a letter which they denied receiving, emails to customer services, managing director, chief executives, directors and anybody else I could find (none of which I received a response from) I have spoken to Sh#tanta again this morning and they have confirmed that my viewing will be switched off on the 30th July.

After the runaround and other people's problems on here, and other threads I should be forgiven for doubting their integrity and asked for the operators name as reference come 30th July when it likely transpires they have not cancelled it as promised. He told me that it was Owen from Sunderland but wouldn't give out his surname. I pressed him further and he then gave me a case note number that he says he has noted on my account.

Here's hoping this is the end of my troublesome journey and good look to everybody else experiencing similar problems. Just for reference over recent weeks I have used the premium rate numbers and spent up to 20-30 minutes each time in hold. Today I used another number from www.saynoto0870.com I got through immediately and seemingly got the answer I wanted.

    The number I used was 0191 501 3482 Good luck !!!
  • I am having the same problems as many people on here.

I joined Setanta on a deal with talktalk to get 2 free months.
It started badley so i should have left it at that.

I wasn't on talktalk's list to Setanta to recieve the offer then I was and Setanta were going to send out the "free" freeview box and card for the subscription. I recieved the card within a few days. After about 3 weeks I contacted Setanta as i didnt have my box, they said they had problems with the hardware and will send one out now (why did they wait for me to call? if they had sorted the problems and could send it right away why hadn't they sent it?). I recieved the box within a week but as I had explained to the person i spoke to i would lose my first month. She said ring up (premium number) and explain and the two months will run from then.

I rang up explained and was told my two months WOULD run from then (she didnt lie). I was told to cancel by the 14th of April (which I did over the phone, which they were happy with) to cancel with no charge. On the 15th April Setanta told a charge of £9.99. Same as everyone else dont bother sending emails they get ignored. I called, again, and was told to recieve a refund to send a letter. I sent a letter (not recorded but subsequant phone conversations they have confirmed they are in reciept of it). I didnt hear anything for ages. I called again and was told it is being processed and i would be in reciept of the money in a few days (this was 17/06/08). On the 23rd I called and said I haven't recieved anything and had to explain the whole thing again (nice way for them to get more money). The 'customer service' (thats a joke phrase with these guys surely) adviser (Paul) said he couldn't do anything as it would be better to speak to the person I first dealt with who wasnt in (and still doesn't seem to be) but it could take four weeks to process a refund. I asked to speak with a supervisor and got Keith! Keith told me the same (after listening to the whole thing again) that he would like to speak with the first person (Colim) but he assured me he would call me back himself the next day (being the 24th June). 15th July I call again having not heard from anyone at Setanta and still no money. I speak with Philamina she said she would pass the message onto Keith to call me back as he isn't in at the moment (very convienient!) that was this morning and as I said to Philamina I wouldn'y hold my breath about Keith calling me. If he cant find a phone in over 3 weeks what chance has he in an afternoon.

I still get promotional material from them though (thats nice of them).

When I asked about compensation for awful service they can only offer discounted viewing as long as they tie you into longer than the discounted period. Thats good of them.

Thank you for providing the setanta phone number - rang it answered immediately, also by Owen, and he was able to confirm that my cancellation instructions have been received, last payment has been received and account will terminate on 26th July. All done in 2 mins.:T

Just a quick update - our viewing actually was terminated on 18th July - not 26th as he told me. Also cheque still hasn't cleared account and I've had a couple of letters asking me to contact them because my direct debit was cancelled - ignoring them at the moment - it's their problem not mine any more I hope!!!

Further Update - final cheque has cleared - viewing already cancelled - hopefully that's and end to it all! Relatively simple thanks to having the number recommended by DavePerry - again a big thank you!!!!
Wins since July'08::T £24 money off vouchers Unilever Products, bbq tongs & apron, Day at Spa including Dinner.

Just so long as they do what they say they will, which from everything I've read on here I'm not holding my breath !
