Thank you for providing the setanta phone number - rang it answered immediately, also by Owen, and he was able to confirm that my cancellation instructions have been received, last payment has been received and account will terminate on 26th July. All done in 2 mins.:T

i would not take their word about that ....i have been trying to cancel since 18/5/8..i rang the cancellation number was offered 6 months @ £7.50 ..first mistake i accepted it..
on 10/7 checked my credit card £10.99 was deducted, so i contact them again as an "good will " i could have 3 months@ £5 and 6 @ £7.50..checked my credit card today and i was billed £10 on the 11/7..
so i contacted them again today they cant refund this . i told them i would like to cancel and was told i have to write to them giving 60 days notice and also request a refund..

i also contacted my credit card company who said they cant stop selanta from requesting payments..
• Hi never never ever set up to pay via credit card as you cannot cancel it they have to do that. Always set up via DD as you can cancel it via the bank. I have done it now 3 times as I set up monthly payments of £12.99 and the fly head on other end set it up as annually and they keep trying to take £170 from my bank account. Even though it no set up right after a lot of phone calls they say its sorted, (don't believe a word they say on phone juts phobed of). Spent hours on phone sorting this out only to find they tried to take another £170 this morning, luckily I was quick enough to canel it again last night. Got a phone call from accounts asking why I keep cancelling DD and told them in no certain words to sort there mistake out as bloody sick of been messed around and would be taking this further if its not sorted out. Will let you all know what happend next in sarga.

I too have had a nightmare with Setanta. On 17th June I phoned and cancelled my yearly subscription. I was told to confirm this in writing, which I did. I was also told that my annual subscription ended on 29th June. So I would no longer recieve Setanta after that date. This was no problem, as I now have Virgin TV which gives me Setanta anyway. To compound matters, when I contacted Setanta at the beginning of the year to tell them I had now got Virgin and no longer wanted Setanta through sky, I was told that as I had already paid for it I may as well just keep it and notify them when my yearly subscription was due and they would cancel it then. Oh.... if only!!
On 1st July I was charged £180 for my yearly subscription. I phoned and was assured that I had indeed cancelled on 17th June and my letter was recieved on 26th June. (even though I posted it on the 17th!!)I was then told that I shouldn't have been charged, but that I had to write to the refunds dept at Kircaldy. This I did, (By recorded delivery) and.... nothing!! I telephoned again and was assured that a supervisor would phone me back ... and....nothing.!! I phoned again today and was told that I should have sent the letter to Newry, Co Down as this is where they now deal with refunds!!!When I asked if the people at Kircaldy should have passed my letter onto Co. Down I was told that "I don't think they can do that"!!!! Oh and I was also told that I should have given 60 days notice!!! Considering the letter for renewal only came in 14 days before the due date, I could hardly do that.I have now sent a registered letter - costing £4.60 - to Co.Down. I again phoned to tell customer services I have done this and they have assured me that I will get a phone call from someone next week. I really hope so, but I fully intend to contact my credit card company to take this matter up and I am even considering contacting watchdog and the press. I have been mislead and blatantly lied to, as well as being charged £180 for something I neither want or need.
• Wow, I thought it was just me that had problems with them.
I originally signed up with them Jan 07. Paying 15 quid a month. Got the hump when they dropped it to 9.99 a month. They refused to match that price for me. After 12 months I phoned to cancel. Stupidly I accepted their offer to stay on 9.99 a month. Anyway, May 12th this year I decided I wasn't watching the channels enough so again phoned to cancel. Sorted. Over month passes and the channel keeps showing. I check my bank account and they have continued to take out the DD. I phone again. Again I try to cancel. Again I'm told no problem and I inform the girl I will cancel the DD immediately. Now I'm getting calls from them demanding 12 quid outstanding on the account. Just got off phone from supervisor, whos policy was just to shout over the top of me. She insisted I owed the money, that the call I made in My 12th wasn't to cancel, even though the reason for me cancelling is in their notes, and that as I had said I wasn't paying another penny, the matter would be passed to a 3rd party.
As I'm currently in the process of moving house and am applying for a new mortgage, I think I might have to pay this as it could affect my mortgage application. I think it absolutely disgusting how a company can work like this though. In the states, any pub showing Setanta events has Setanta reps stood outside and you can't even get into the place without paying them. They are not a broadcaster, they are flippin highway men.

Avoid Setanta like the plague!!
They are awful, and there customer service department are useless!
I tried to join for the ricky Hatton fight a few months ago and never received a signal put got charged for it!
It took over 15 phone calls, 2 e mails and a letter to there head of customer services to get it sorted...well actually I think its sorted, they are that bead they have never even acknowledged my letter...but I haven't had any more bills!
• I have just came off phone with Setanta team leader in reference to wh yi have been charged the £14.99 from the beginning of setanta until just recently. Surely i told them i should of only been paying the £9.99 that was plastered everywhere for the previous year. His answer no i don't think so we are a business its not up to us to tell customers they are paying too much, thats there problem. There are actually still alot of customers out there paying £14.99. Is this not an awful thing for someone to admit that they have let customers over pay for years., The best laugh is they say as i paid it tough i t will not be refunded., well i will be taking this matter further. I am actually considering contacting the press for them to warn all the poor faithful customer sof Setanta they are being ripped off and Setanta just clearly do not clear. Please ask everyone you know to check there subscription amount and id they are still paying the £14.99 they have to phone up asap, then write to manager to get refund. Also i have been informed by team leader if you have not received a letter telling you about price increase call them and they offer yu something. SO PLEASE EVERYONE CHECK YUR SUBSCRIPTION CHARGE
• Hi everyone. My name is Richard and I share something with many of you in that I, too, have experienced Setanta hell. And like many of you, my Setanta nightmare is not over!

I shan't bore you with my story. Instead, I wish to invite you to join a group I am setting up to get this incompetent, selfish company to change its ways - the Setanta Action Group.

Individually we have no influence. But as members of the Setanta Action Group we can make a difference.

If you'd like to join, please email your full name, phone number and your own Setanta problem story to setantaactiongroup@yahoo.co.uk

I plan to use the Setanta Action Group to gain media coverage that will make this company sit up and take notice.

Please keep your story accurate but brief. I won't share your contact details with anyone, but I may contact you myself in relation to SAG matters.

One more thing: is there someone out there willing to set up a website that will allow people to contact SAG? I don't have that ability I'm afraid, but it would be a really useful tool

Thanks for listening!
• I have had such poor customer service from Setanta, that out of protest and anger I would never touch that company ever again.

They avertise that you can pay monthly, and that there is no subscription. Most people would aim to subscribe for the football season, and take a break during the summer.

My experience has been that due to their dirty tricks and lies, I have paid for the summer period regardless of my wishes.

I phoned on 19th May to cancel, to be told that I need to give a month's notice, and that being that my contract was for the 2nd of each month, I would best to call back on 2 June to cancel, so that I benefit from a full month's viewing.

On 30 May I phoned back to give my 30 days notice. They told me, 'You cannot cancel by phone, you have to write to us.' I wrote a cancellation letter and sent it off the same day by 1st class recorded delivery.

On 29 June I phoned again and was told that the service was definitely cancelled, but as they didn't process my letter until 9 June, and that the 30 days started on 9 June.

Setanta took another full month's payment on 2 July.

From my initial cancellation call on 19 May, the service was not actually cancelled until 2 August, some two and a half months later.

They make it so easy to subscribe, just a few clicks on the sky remote, yet they make it almost impossible to get out of their 'non-subscription' service.

I don't understand companies like this. If they think they can treat customers with such contempt, and arogantly presume we are all so football obsessed and brainless, that we will put up with it, then think again Setanta.
I will not be re-subscribing, and I would urge everyone to steer clear.
• hi im also having trouble with setanta i signed up in july as pay as u go and have just checked my bank statement and they have already taken out 4 payments for 4 different amounts 1 for £9.99, 24.99, 14.99 and 18.99 ive received no contract or paper work from them and as i am disabled and ill most of the time im not sure what to do for the best . ive read the previous post and will try to ring or e-mail as i am unable to write to them but thank you 4 ure suggestions:confused: . ill let u know how i get on
• Hi red45 please if you are paying Direct Debit cancel straight way as I had the same problems and give this number a ring 01915013601 its a land line number so costs less than the other number they give you. Explain to them the problem you are having and that they have taken to much money from your bank. They should be able to sort it out. If you have anyone who can also write you a letter send it recorded delivery to Setanta sports, PO Box 182, The Quays, Newry. BT35 5AS.

I finally got to the bottom of my problems with them as they had set up 2 accounts one for monthly payments and one for yearly. So cancelled both and set back up in hubbys name 1 account now. Hope this helps you out.
