  • I'm having the same problems with trying to cancel my Setanta account. I joined in the middle of April to watch the Clinton woods and thefollowing Calzaghe fights. Never got the signal to watch live, and despite spending hours on the phone to their so called "customer service" had to watch both fights the next day when I already knew the result. setanta stipulate a 3 month contract. I took my setanta box back to Argos after 2 weeks for a refund as I wasn't getting what I'd paid for. I paid the 3 month contract anyway (complete waste of money) and then emailed on the 10 June, to cancel my account ending the 15th July 08. They took ten days top respond, saying that they were unable to find my account details (despite having my name-account number at al, and that I'd have to phone. Tried ringing, was told that I can't cancel by phone but need to write. When I asked who I need to write to, as I seemed to be getting a different person everytime, they said they can't tell me the customer service manager's name as this is against the data protection act. They can activate your account in 2 mins flat over the phone, but won't accept phone-email as methods of cancellation and won't give details of who you need to write to. I have now written, but, due to Setanta's deliberate delaying tactics, the 30 day threshold has now passed for me to cancel. I have now contacted Barclaycard and have given all the info to them. I would strongly urge anyone thinking of starting up with setanta, to save your money and a whole lot of aggravation, and don't bother!
  • I spoke to Setanta this evening on
    0191 501 3601

Allthough the girl I spoke to made offers of cheaper service, she was helpful and I was on for under 5 mins in total.

I have to give 30 days notice and put a letter in writing to:

    setanta sports
    dept 8548
    sunderland
    sr9 9xz

this was freeview btw, not sky.
Include all details inc account no.
again, send recorded delivery to make sure it gets there.

For satellite customers wanting to cancel rip off SETANTA this is the ONLY number to use. DO NOT ring the 08700 number this just bumps up Setantas profits and puts you through to ignorant arrogant underpaid miserable Setanta employees who put you on hold knowing they are making money off you.
The above number is based in SUNDERLAND who, thank god, are friendly and you CAN CANCEL with immediate affect.:T

When did you call this number and cancel?

I phoned the number this morning and whilst I admit the girl I spoke too was much more friendly and polite than the obnoxious man I spoke to a couple of weeks ago I was still told that they have not received my letter and they cannot cancel over the phone.

I have subsequently sent an email to various people highlighted on another post on this site including the managing director, chief executive and various other people highlighted but so far have only received the automated response from the customer services address.

I called on Monday 30th June. I told them i financially could not afford it and they were happy to offer me a discounted subscription or Cancel my account. Don't bother writing to them they won't respond. Cancel your direct debit if you are paying this way and wait for them to ring (and they will!!!) then tell them to cancel your subsription BEFORE you clear any monies left on your bill this should work for you. Hope this helps. For anyone else thinking of subscribing to setanta........................DON'T!
  • Thanks, andyshav but the problem I have got like many others is that the payments come directly from my credit card a lesson I have now learnt not to do again. I am unable to cancel the payments athough I am trying to dispute it but will have to wait and see if this is successful as Barclaycard tell me they will speak to Setanta on my behalf but they are just denying receipt of my letter.

I suppose the next step would be to send a letter recorded delivery but it aggrieves me to spend more time and money on these people

i have had a similar problem with them not being able to explain why they took £4.07 refunded £4.06 and then took a further £5 on the same day. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was promptly cut off then rang back and asked to speak to the complaints dept, they only deal with complaints in writing.

We need to get our heads together here.... Does anyone know how to lodge a complaint about Setanta's atittude to customers wanting to cancel?
How about OFFCOM if enough of us write to them we may be able to put serious pressure on Setanta and maybe a little publicity against them could force them to change. Is there an OFCOM email address we could all write to? Been to the website but it's not very clear.

I'd just like to say thanks to 99% of people who've posted in this thread. We were considering getting setanta for the new football season. I can catigorically state that it's definately not going to happen now.

    Thanks again.
