By this logical above - basically if you are low paid or part time (for whatever reason) you don't deserve things like a car or owning your own home. The gap between middle income and people on benefits (2+2) is still significantly wide - the only people who get lots in benefits are big families who also rent. Average families who receive the TC don't have the same lifestyles as middle income earners. I don't think it is popular to be honest well 3 million families will disagree. Keeping the low paid poor wont help the country or economy - Its a false economy and in 10-15 years time we will see the effect that it has on society. You cant cut your way out of debt - cutting peoples TC will stop them spending and halt the growth 0.7 we have seen.
I have sympathy for some on TC but certainly not all.
Its not to bridge inequality - its a means tested benefit! It's suposed to provide a minimum to live on like any means tested benefit - just the minimum is only an arbitrary figure with many above on less and many below on more.
Your entitlemebt is 4.2 k plus 1.7k CB. After the housing costs you provided on here you have circs £475 a week. That's not living on any breadline!Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
youre showing your age. it has nothing to do with inequality.
do you honestly think that a low earner'part time worker should expect the same standard of living as a middle high earner?
no one DESERVES a car or to own their own home.
they can have what they can afford.
that is how the world works.
if you can afford it, you buy it and if you can't you don't.
i can't believe you think the state should pay for the things people want if they don't earn enough to get them for themselves
benefits are paid to maintain MINIMUM standards and not provide a lifestyle
Your deliberately missing my point. The fact is people can afford things but then get abuse because they are claiming what they are ENTITLED too. I have a car,own my own home, have holidays and I don't see why I shouldn't have those things. We both work hard, we earn 22500 per annum (wages) so why shouldn't we. Then we get TC which help towards the children. I don't feel bad one bit and if you or anybody else were in the same situation I wouldn't begrudge it. Its as simple as that really. I think everybody needs to stop seeing TC as benefits for lazy people who have kids as that's not the case.0 -

After I pay all my bills etc I have less than that for the month :rotfl: I didnt state I was on the breadline and TC are not a minimum they are a TOP UP a TAX CREDIT - its too provide a decent standard of living for the low paid and children. I think people forget the money is for children... and how many people make overpaymets on their mortgage! Stop reading right wing press0 -
you can have them by all means IF you don't need to claim benefits in order to afford them!
why should a single person earning 14k a year pay towards your car and your home and your holidays when they can't afford them for themselves?
i has one holiday in the whole time my children were growing up.
but that was the norm!
very few young people with families could afford anything more than a day trip here and there.
we didn't have a car or anything more than the necessities.
but we didn't expect to have the same things and standa4rd of life that our parents had worked 20 odd years to get.
you seem to think you should have it all just because you work 12 hours a week and thats not how it works.
you earn it and you can spend it, but don't expect other people to be happy when you start saying you think you DESERVE their money0 -
Im clearly not getting through to you guys as you dont think people who are low paid jobs deserve TC to give them some form of decent living standard which is your choice and your opinion. I on the other hand think everybody deserves the same chances and opportunities regardless of financial status. I sincerely hope you don't find yourselves needing help from social security otherwise your in for a shock.
Im off now - off to watch a film on netflix (omg is it allowed a 6.99 subscription)
Happy benefits bashing guys :rotfl:0 -

and that is what is changing.
tax credits are going back to what they were intended for.
a minimum .
they are ridiculously over generous, where a parent will get more for 1 child than they receive as an adult.
the man out of work next door might have to maintain a home and pay all bills on £73, yet the one child, whose home is provided by its parent gets over £80.

This forum shows how much - check it out.
TAX credit - you think you / OH pay 4.3k in tax?
No you don't - it's a means tested benefit!
The fact you borrow stupid amounts you can't afford including a car that's 4 year old in negative equity is your personal choice. I save and buy cars without finance. But yes after housing if no debts to HMRC to lower your TC that's your amount.
Some (disabilities and lone parents full time especially with a NRP not paying) are going to struggle. But you cannot make out everyone will, many are just put equal to those above TC limits.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

i just don't understand why you feel you DESERVE anything that you haven't provided for yourself.
you do however DESERVE a minimum standard of living.
a roof over your head, 3 meals a day and heating/lights and water.
if you want more than that ( a car, holidays etc) then work more hours/get a better paid job.... don't expect others to provide it for you.
( and before you say anything ... i worked for over 30 years, and raised 2 children as a single parent with no benefits apart from child benefit before i lost my sight... and would love to be back at work if i could find anyone willing to employ me)0 -

Im not in negative equity at all so just shows - you clearly havent read my previous posts about how much I was earning prior or my circumstances (selective sight) but thats ok. I am taking a little bit out of a pot I have paid into and once back at 20k will do again. I saved up for my deposit on my mortgage 30k so thats why we got the car on finance but again its ok I accept your apology. Seriously open your eyes0 -

I don't need to - you are severely in debt with a tiny mortgage and your CAR is not worth its finance. I saved 70k deposit and 2 cars of trying to score points.
You need to grow up and stop wanting it all and now. If you are right in 10 years when paying 40% tax if you have the same opinion great. However, I don't think you will as I feel sure you'd say work not claim benefitsTomorrow is the most important thing in life0
