    Sorry Sophie,

Can you point out which post you need help with ?

Is it the barclaycard one ?

I'll assume that it is, you should write to BC and ask them for an explanation of there actions on your accounts.

Make sure you head your letter COMPLAINT, that way it will be dealt with quicker.

Tell them your concerns and ask for an explanation as to why they have started charging interest again.

Sorry Sophie, if it was the Barclay one I have no idea.
I guess many of us are all new to this process and can't offer advice. Some days there are a number of posts and it's easy to miss one.
I'm sure someone might be able to help if you post your question again

Awww Nelijmuk sorry you're doing it tough. I know there are people on her on DMP who have private rented, despite DMP, I think it's just the luck of the draw if you get an agency who is set on routing out potential defaulters rather than a landlord who just wants good tenants. If it's gonna be a problem, I'd suggest trying to reverse it, so start off by saying, I have a terrible credit rating with defaults etcs, but I've always paid rent on time - here's my landlord reference. If that's going to be a problem then they can back out straight area and no one gets their hopes up.
There's just so much competition to rent in some areas they'll use any excuse to ditch you.

But if bankruptcy is the way forward for you, do it with the bankruptcy thread so you know what you're in for there:eek:

Edit ; I had a thought - when I had to remortgage, the only people who would entertain it was my existing lender, any chance of getting another rental with your existing landlord?

    Hi everyone,
Its been ages since I asked a question! But I always check the activity on here each day to make sure I am up-to-date - thanks for being so knowledgeable about all things DMP related!
I wonder if anyone can help with this one?
BC stoped charging me interest out of the blue, without any communication as to why after 2 years of applying interest every month. They just stopped and because I have 3 accounts with them I was pretty happy about this, so I didn't question it. One of the accounts was later moved to Link and so I pay them direct. As far as I know Link are not charging interest but since I started paying them I haven't had a statement to check. Its been about 3 months.
However, what I am hoping someone can help me on is the other two accounts which remained with BC ..... I continued receiving monthly statements from them without the interest (all good). There was a note on the monthly statement telling me the account was now closed (fair enough). I received these for 5 or 6 months. Then out of the blue, this month, I have received a BC statement with no note on it about the account being closed (so presumably open?) and interest has started to be applied again?
No letter expalining why this is now the case, just as I received no communication when they stopped it and closed the account?
Has anyone had the same with BC?
Should I be calling them to ask what's going on or is it possible that it was an error and they could back date the interest they haven't charged me when they closed the account?
I don't understand how they can close my account and re-open it without some communication with me?

Anyone have any ideas? I have checked my credit file which only records the DMP arrangement on these 2 accounts for a 6 month period in 2014 and nothing else. Payments are shown as up-to-date.

    Thanks

    Hi Sleepiesophie

I do try to look out for missed posts but sorry yours slipped through.
Really don't know what BC are up to with this, I know they like a 6 month review or they start to apply interest, are you direct with them or with SC?

Link account shouldn't be a problem and I seem to get 6 monthly statemnets from them.

Maybe call BC and ask them what is going on. Follow up with letter complaining about reintroduction of interest and requesting it be removed. Don't think they could backdate the interest as it wouldn't be in your interest and sure the FOS would take a dim view. I have a feeling what's happened is they've recorded your DMP against the account they've sold off and now their records are messed up?

    Hello Sleepysophie

Apologies - I also missed seeing your original post. If that ever happens again don't be afraid to just repost your original question and shout out loud ;)

If I were you I would challenge BC on what they are doing with your account and why they are treating each account differently with regards to interest and charges.

BC subscribe to The Standards of Lending Practice. Under the Financial Difficulty Section, point 9 is headed
Firms should consider freezing or reducing interest and charges when a customer is in financial difficulty
and within that section it states:
Firms should ensure that a consistent policy is in place when it comes to the application of charges and interest concessions for customers who are in financial difficulty and who hold more than one product or account with the Firm.
We had more than one account with BC and they treated ours differently. We had a huge battle of to'ing and fro'ing with letters, but we won eventually. Both accounts defaulted and all interest refunded - this was backdated to the start of our DMP.

Don't be afraid to challenge BC. You may be in debt, you may not be repaying at the original contracted rate, but you have identified to BC your financial difficulties and you are working to clear the debt. You are doing what you need to and the Standards of Lending Practice (SLP) make allowances for this. BC however are not following the SLP. This is not uncommon. Banks and card companies think the public don't know their rights in such circumstances and will push their luck until challenged. So go challenge them :)

Good luck - let us know how you get on :)

Hi Sourcrates and January and Saz and Harry!
Thank you for repying to me. I feel like such a drama queen now. It just goes to show though, doesn't it, when you're low and you have money worries how it can affect your mental health. I took it so personally that no one had replied and yet, I know it isn't personal. !!
Thank you so much for your advice. I will be getting in touch with BC and will be marking my letter COMPLAINT. :)

Thanks for the reply. They blew us out because we'd need to be near the end of the DMP apparently. I don't really want to go bankrupt but I'm horrified that the DMP is going to cause so many issues in this area. If I can't more or get council property easily then I'm screwed. Our current landlord may want to kick us out soon so rather worried :(
