  • Seriously listen to Sourcrates. I'm fighting to get defaults 3 years in to my DMP which could have been 3 years into the default dropping off my file rather than another 6 years from now whenever I finally get them all.

Recent legislation means creditors have to do EVERYTHING they can to help you. Gone are the days of trying to intimidate you into paying.

I had one bottom feeder refuse my payment of £1 because my current Financial Statement shows a deficit. They told me to pay nothing because I can afford nothing. 2 years ago they would have been beating down my door to hassle any sort of payment out of me.

Thanks for that advice, blisteringblue:T. A voice of sanity as always:beer:

At least my creditors defaulted me around 3 years ago or more so what's the worst that they could do, eh? Absolutely nothing! I'm afraid I overthink things to the nth degree. Always have and probably always will:o:o:o

Sure to put minds at rest.

We have had a letter from Capital One today saying they have instructed Fredrickdon International to act on their behalf.
Does this mean Cap 1 have sold the debt?
They say all contact should be made to Fredrickson now and not them....step in the right direction??
(It's the first letter we've had telling us another company is dealing with an account of ours)

The ownership of the debt hasn't changed, just whose managing it.

If ever an account gets sold, it's likely to be bought by Cabot, Lowell, or one of the other major players, you will get an introductory letter from the new owner, advising you of the sale.

Basically if you don't get that letter, then the accounts only been managed by them.

Which would be the best sub forum for me to ask about tax implications about lodger and Airbnb ?

I have the spare room, just not sure I can cope with an outsider after being on my own for years, apart from my own kids that is

If I could do it, then it would help my debt enormously
    LBM.....sometime in 2013 £27,056. 10 creditors
June 20.....£7,587.....3 creditors left 72% paid

£26,200 on interest only part of mortgage (July 16)...will chip away £17,103
    £49,200 repayment mortgage ( July 16) £37,764

I'm self employed anyway so do tax returns. I know you can offset X amount under the rent a room scheme thing, can't remember the allowance though

Part of me thinks Airbnb just because it's more short term?! Will do some more looking and research

Your link answers some of my queries, thanks very much.

"The Rent a Room scheme. This is a huge tax break for most people and really ups the gain. You don't pay tax on the first £7,500 you make each year from renting out a room (halved if you share the income with a partner or someone else). If your rental income's below the threshold, you don't need to do anything, as the tax exemption is automatic."

Ive been lurking on here for a while and absorbing every piece of info i can, and last month decided to take the plunge and setup a DMP with StepChange to help me with my 35k of debts, i feel so stupid to have got in this mess but i am determined to pay it all back and feel good about myself again:j. Thankfully my wife is a brilliant support and together we can sort this mess out.
I have asked StepChange to delay my Dmp until March to allow myself a couple of months to build an emergency fund.
Im glad i found this helpfull and supportive group who will help me along the way and advise me with any problems i may encounter along the way.
