Thanks for the advice just a quick update. I called SC who didnt beat me with a stick or anything despite my worries! Gone onto token payments of £15 for next 2 months or possibly 3. They have suggested a review of my budget following this and looking at reducing my overall payments to allow me to put some cash by for car issues in the future. Super easy to do.
One thing tho they said they would inform my creditors i was dropping payments and that they recommend i should too. As they are already telling them do i need to write to them as well or can i just leave it?
Hi Pink, usually the worry is worse than the reality
I found SC said the would tell creditors, but they didn't seem to get the message. Up to you if you tell them, some do, some don't. I think if it did it again, I'd write a letter and copy it to them all as I'm not a fan of uncertainty. The world won't end if you don't tell them.

Well done, pinkspideruk:T. That's how it was with me, as I mentioned before.
I definitely didn't notify my creditors myself, in fact the person I spoke to at Stepchange never even suggested that I should do. Nothing happened as a result, it's almost as if my creditors didn't even notice what was going on:rotfl:. It's entirely up to you if you'll feel better and safer doing so.0 -

Just a quick query. Shall be being made redundant end of next month, however after speaking to CAB it looks as though my income won't be dramatically less and I shall be receiving payment in lieu of leave for 2 months. I currently only pay a small amount a month for my DMP and should be able to cover it still on benefits (having already adjusted to having very little spare money after having hours cut in half at work). I'm hoping to be able to find employment ASAP though I know that might not happen. Should I go onto token payments or just keep paying what I am at the moment? I want to just keep paying what I am but I don't want to balls everything up.
Also this has given me a push to look at doing a part time degree to try and work my way towards primary teaching. I can get Student finance to cover the cost of this but is it crazy taking on a student loan at this point? I know they are different and hopefully this will help me be able to get a better paying job in the future as all I'm qualified for at the moment is entry level.
Any insight would be much appreciated
Hi muddle
Sorry about the job, but if you've been on half-hours might be a blessing in disguise. 2 separate issues, deal first with reduced payments. In terms of hassle factor, better to reduce sooner rather than later, remember that pay might have to last you not just til you get a job, but til you get paid from the job which can often be 5/6 weeks from starting? I know you want the debt gone, but don't put yourself in a position where you are struggling to pay essentials for the sake of a 6 month shorted DFD. Think positive when you get that job, you can increase your payments.
Re Student, seems a great time to go for it, especially while there is some government support still for teacher training. Not sure what the current deals are, but take advantage if it's something you've been considering. Especially if you've been used to living on restricted income, it's a great time to do it. Student debt is different, but still needs to be repaid at some stage and I think takes priority over your other debts, but payments don't start to after you qualify. I bet there's a :money:MSE page about student debt, probably worth a read. I'd Defo apply now, places will get limited soon.
Good luck with it all

Hi just popping back to see how everyone is getting on? Well we are two payments away from the end and I don't think we can quite believe it! Over £46,000 paid off which is insane whichever way you look at it! Had a slight hiccup recently as HSBC decided to suddenly kick off about overdrafts that have been happily ticking along for six and half years, with threats of defaults etc, six years ago crack on you gits but now no thanks! Managed to pay these now and hopefully defaults avoided. Not sure how we are going to celebrate yet but £700 in our pockets rather than spending out on debt is celebration enough!
I've seen some posts on here with people starting out on this journey, it's not easy but it's worth it in the end and 6 and half years has actually flown by. Good luck to those starting out and stick in there to those mid process! DG0 -
Wow - nearly there, well done dave!
I'm just after some advice. I have a loan and credit card with Tesco. The credit card defaulted in July, but the loan is showing a 5 months arrears and a debt management marker.
I think I remember reading a while back that just as we can't treat creditors unfairly - they can't treat us unfairly either. Just wondering if I can complain that the tesco loan should be defaulted, and if a template letter exists for doing this please?
Best Wishes,

Hi All,
I just wondered if anyone else is having issues logging in to their DMP account on stepchange? For the past few days each time I've tried it I get an error message saying 'An error has occurred with this application. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.'
Is anyone else getting this happen?0 -

Hi,
Just write to tesco with your reasons for wanting them to default you.
Just tell them you think it's unfair one account has defaulted whilst the other hasent, and you beleive there actions may prolong the time your credit record takes to recover.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Sorry for the weird time of this post - I'm about to set off to spain so I'm up early! My dad has paid for the flights so its pretty much a free holiday - so frugal sunny break for me :-)
Just wanted to say that yes, I am having problems with the stepchange site too - it worried me initially but I think the site is just down!Hi All,

Thanks Sazzie! I shall bite the bullet and ring step change... Just feel so flakey doing it so soon on in the process but shiz happens! On the plus side it shall hopefully get some defaults happening and then by the time I'm fully qualified the credit rating should be looking a lot healthier!0
