Just had a thought re me changing banks and claiming the swirching bonus......

My smallest debt is with bank I want to switch to. They have refused my last settlement figure but....... The switching bonus is the equivilant to what I asked the debt to be reduced by. So effectively I would get the discount I wanted

Yes, I will clear the debt first and won't benefit from the extra money but will be another debt gone

I'm intrigued (nosy maybe:o) about your options for switching banks to get the switching bonus.

Being on a DMP I've discovered that the only bank accounts I can be accepted for are the Basic sort which definitely don't offer a switching bonus:(. No one wants to take me on at all for the accounts that offer a switching bonus, let alone pay me to do so.

ETA had some spare time before work so thought I'd have a go online. Was accepted no problem at all. It was for a rewards based account with switching bonus....that's more than basic I think?!

Switched to Yorkshire bank, part of Clydesdale group earlier this year. Did it on line and qualified for the bonus. No questions were asked if I was on a Dmp, I expected to get a message saying ......noooooo we've made a mistake, but they never did:T

Received letters today refusing my F and F offer of 2 'sold on' debts, not surprised. I offered 10% and they came back with roughly 25% discount. Haven't got that much, so will carry on with my fiver a month. I can wait :D

Can't afford to offer more even if it's for only one debt? I was going to suggest 25% but Spoonheads 15% seems reasonable, apparently they rarely agree to a first offer. Why not try it, you can always say, sorry I don't have the money available now if you're not happy?

Someone asked about f&f through SC. slightly problematic is the short answer, most folk have found more success picking off one debt after another and just telling SC someone paid it off for them, parents etc Or go self managed ....

Difficult one this, does depend on how good your credit rating is, or otherwise. A mate of mine on a DMP managed to get on a work car lease scheme. Others have had to get friends of family to guarantor, or borrow off grandparents.

There are some firms that lend to bad credit but of course there is a price to pay. Not familiar with money-barn, sounds like pdl in which case I'd steer clear.

Other options : Too far to bicycle ? Car share a possibility maybe? Borrow a car for weekdays from someone who only uses it at weekends ? Offer to run someone about if they'll lend you the car for work..

Ask Stepchange if they have other suggestions.

ThE application for the bank account had a box asking.....have you any CCJ, are bankrupt or in a formal debt programme.
As everyone on here states a DMP is not formal , I ticked the no box :D

I had an email this morning with new account details on saying it's set up and ready to go
