Just checking in to say Hi.
Having a bit of stress with Virgin Media over reassigning account to my name, got so angry I had to lay down!
Was hoping I could manage without home phone but need one for burglar alarm, not that I've anything much worth taking, just makes me feel better and of course get discount on house insurance with it. I know it's a luxury but don't feel like I can give it up.
Happy debt busting week everyoneDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Evening debt busters. Paid out on car repairs again, I'm desperately hoping it is OK now. If not OH has said he wants to get rid of it and get something newer. How much do you think is a reasonable price to pay for a decent second hand car? I have a couple of small pensions I could cash in if needs be, not that I want to, but needs must and all that.
Just made another months DMP payment and only three more payments to go! Am getting excited now.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

3 more to go yippee :T:T
Sorry dunno much about second hand cars, it's a guess isn't it whether it's going to be a good one or not. We sold the OHs car, rather than me keep it even though is was 6 years younger and had less mileage than mine, but it kept developing faults. They were both looked after and regularly serviced. Might even be better off with an older one than a newer one someone wants rid of. (sorry zero help:o)Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Yes that's the issue isn't it? I bought my car for £1500, ten years old one owner, low mileage and although I have had to have some work done on it, it hasn't actually broken down anywhere. Some cars just seem to be trouble, and others go on forever. Seems to me to be luck of the draw a lot of the time!
My last DMP payment comes out of my November wage, December's wage will give us a good Christmas, which is going to be special this year as there will be a new addition to the family in November. All very exciting. My plan in the New Year was to start saving in earnest, putting what would have been my DMP payment into my Credit Union account to start off with and then think about how best to make it work for us. OH has other ideas though, he does like to spend. At least he can't do it on a credit card now!DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Sort of like winning the lottery if you get a good one ?
I do understand how the OH thinks about spending, but your plan:money: is the better one, how about rule of thirds, one third to save, one third for emergency fund (new car fund), one third spends ? then you could split that one third spends between you, and you could save yours if you wish ?Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Finally getting me head together a bit, updated the spreadsheets and if I continue to pay what I have been, I should be debt free before 65:eek:
I am hoping to increase payments as my income is gradually going up again, I think I need to work 9 out of hours shifts (not extra shifts) per month, so that's my target for Sept and Oct. if I'm right this would keep my pay at a sustainable income and allow me to increase the DMP payment a little. I'm usually rota'd about 6 so that doesn't mean too much work to get these shifts, and if it works out I'll raise the DMP payment in Jan, since I have no savings left I don't want to jump too quickly.
However I haven't factored in that the mortgage finishes in just over 5 years and the secured loan about 7 so with luck I might be clear in 10-12 years, but that requires a bit more spreadsheet estimation. Buts it's all progressDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

That's a very good idea. Don't get me wrong I enjoy spending money too and it's not all OH's fault that we got into this mess in the first place, but he's made some really stupid purchases in the past that have caused me to despair. We have lots of gadgets languishing in the cupboard that were very expensive 5 minute wonders.with luck I might be clear in 10-12 years, but that requires a bit more spreadsheet estimation. Buts it's all progress
I love my spreadsheets. Keep at it Sazzie, you will get there!DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421
