We currently rent a two bedroom flat.

We are on the housing list as being overcrowded but as you know this could take years and I have spoken to them regarding the incidences and they are not interested. :(

My sister is due to move out within a few weeks or so. I have asked my mum if I could move back in whilst we save some money but would mean 5 people in one room! She's not overly happy about it so not sure it will happen x

  • Ok....where to start.Had a long conversation with Stepchange yesterday after looking at our finances have suggested a DMP.We owe around 22000 on 4 credit cards, overdraft and personal loan-this has come a head because I have been off work for 6 months due to being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment.Have had all the SSP and now am going on ESA but both were/are less than 1/3 of what I was getting paid. My husband works full time and his salary covers most direct debits -mortgage etc but my money was what was paying the credit bills, they had been creeping up and this had been worrying me but then larger worries came along Have had a meeting with my work and it has been intimated that my job no longer exists, and the only jobs are physical , which I cannot due due to type of surgery and having a colostomy . I am signed off for another 2 months anyway as still getting over my treatment. The HR person is writing to docs to verify what ive told them is true, and I will have another meeting witbem before my sicknote runs out but reading between the lines I don't think I will have a job.We can't claim tax
credits as they overpaid us and are now taking the money back through our current award. My husband is reticent to go down the DMP route but I feel this is our only option as we can't release equity on the house as I'm too young.I am so worried about this I can't sleep even with tablets and just need reassurance that this is the right thing to do! We have 3 kids st home and one in Uni but he is pretty much supporting himself. Thanks in advance for reading.
  • Afternoon everyone :)

Just a quick query - am going to be cancelling my Sky subscription within the next few days and putting the money saved towards the car insurance and tax that we are going to need for the second car when our son starts high school (once we manage to sort how we are getting the car!!)

Is there any way you can cancel the complete sky bundle and just pay a small fee to Sky to keep the recording facility on the existing Sky box?? Just wondered if anyone knew??

    Many thanks,

    BDFSH x
  • we can still record on our box however it is only on terrestrial channels it will also not let you watch any recordings that are recorded that were not on these channels such as movies etc. i dont know if what you are suggesting is possible but you can still record from basic tv channels after it is cancelled

    Thanks all.

I'm in such a state right now. Emotionally and mentally. Rentals where I live are ridiculous. We are lucky with our current landlord and to rent anything similar will cost around £300pm more. But I have to get out asap.

    Hi make_the_chnage,

Sorry I have nothing useful to add but hope you get a new home quickly. x

    Hi doshnumpty, (loving the name)

So sorry to hear about your health issues. I assume your debts are all unsecured so you really don't want to be adding them to the mortgage as this makes them secured. Dmp's are great but can involve a bit of work and can be a long journey. Stepchange are brilliant, but one thing we say that they don't is..

don't rush... Do token payments for 3 months or more so you can save for an emergency fund as you will have no access to credit once this journey starts. A token payment can be as little as a £1 and a template was posted by me in the last few days that you can send to your creditors. Tell SC when you wish your dmp to start, I just hung on to my paperwork until I was ready!! Make sure you send a letter and token payment (either a cheque, postal order or online if you can) for each month until the dmp is set up.

Make sure you have opened a new basic bank account where you have no debts with any of your creditors.

Loads of information on this thread and the previous one's so try and get reading..!!

I started my dmp with SC back in November 2013 owing £60k... I now owe just over £44k and have left SC and am self managing my own dmp so for me definitely the right choice.

Feel free to ask any questions and we will do our best to answer them..
