Came home today to a pile of mail. Three more predators confirming balances and details for paying them. Two CCA requests sent off. The other that came today was from cabot who hold a loan, a credit card and two current account debts. Will get CCA requests for the loan and CC sent off but need to relook at something Sourcrates posted a few pages back about how to deal with the current accounts. I didn't quite understand how to doctor the letter to our situation but I'll read it a few more times and maybe it will sink in.

Also heard from a predator I have already sent a CCA to and thought "ooh that was quick" but no such luck. They were just informing us they had sold the debt but to themselves basically. hillesden via dlc now sold to ME III still via dlc all of which are owned by cabot. Sounds awfully like a tax dodge moving it around themselves all the time. This is the third or fourth owner now all being dealt with via dlc. Dlc obviously like us and want to stay with us :rotfl:

I was just wondering about what you said about not having access to credit when on a DMP, Puzz. It doesn't affect me really as all my CCs are part of the DMP anyway, but I just wondered what would happen if someone on a DMP has a Credit Card that they don't owe money on. Do they still need to declare it to StepChange? I know it's slightly different but my basic bank account with Nationwide shows up on my Noddle credit history but has never had an figures attached to it. Just shows as zero regardless of how much money is in the account.

Someone I know who is thinking of going on a DMP wants to keep quiet about a current but unused CC (to keep for a real emergency only and hopefully never have to be used) but is worried to ask SC about keeping it in case they say no!

One way a DMP changes your life for many folk is that access to credit is no longer available, so boiler breakdown, car needs replacing, new washer etc all need to be paid for from savings, not purchased, or making reduced DMP payments.

When I started my DMP, I had a soft fall-back as my ex would have access to credit and would have loaned me funds if I really got stuck. Now, in common with many others, I don't have that option and you have to really focus on what you need and how to pay for it, especially 3 years in DMP as I am now with another xx years go.

As others have said SC won't allow you in the their terms any further credit, how they would feel about you not declaring a card you don't use is debate able. The risk is you then run up a bill on that CC that you can't pay off and you would then be in breach of your SC t&c. However if SC were to stop managing your DMP, there are other options, Payplan or self managed for example.

You get to choose what to do, I just thought I'd share this points with you.

Good luck and welcome to you and any other newbies

    Hi Pipkin

I had a £5000 OD :owing NW when I started my DMP. We withdrew any available funds out just before the DMP started, mainly so we could live, not so we could run off and have a lavish lifestyle:(

NW were fine and didn't cause any trouble, they did get paid off quickly though due to a PPI repayment which had to go to a joint account and cleared the debt.

Congratulations  on your forthcoming event and welcome to the thread.

  • Sorry haven't been around for a while due to personal reasons. To cut a long story short, we have experienced problems with our neighbours, had to call the police again and I am now an emotional wreck where I don't want to be in my own home with my children.

We privately rent and the council won't assist us with moving. I need to find and save quickly for another private rental. My problem and new worry is the fact that I have been making token payments for 2 months, haven't started a DMP yet and now have the credit check to face.

I now am petrified I will never be able to get out of here and I'm desperate to leave.

Any advice please send my way. Thank you!

  • perhaps not the best advice but maybe check the local papers for private landlords. They don't tend to credit check you (personal experience) but obv you wont then have the protection of going through estate agents etc.

Oh, make_the_change, my heart goes out to you. There's nothing worse than not feeling safe in your own home especially when you have children to care for.

I have no experience of the problems you are enduring but just wanted to send a big hug:kisses3:.

I hope things improve for you soon

Credit check only involves searching the public files on your credit report, not your financial comings and goings.

All they can see is if you have any kind of Bankrupcy, CCJ's, or are insolvent, nothing else.

  • Thanks all.

I'm in such a state right now. Emotionally and mentally. Rentals where I live are ridiculous. We are lucky with our current landlord and to rent anything similar will cost around £300pm more. But I have to get out asap.

Is this so? My daughter is on a DMP and has been given notice to quit her rented house. Nothing to do with the DMP we think as she always makes sure her rent is paid on time. I believe the landlord either wants to sell or rent out to multiple occupants (area is close to university). Daughter has never been issued with any defaults (as far as I know) and is up to date with the DMP. I have been concerned that she will be able to get new rental easily due to DMP so if the DMP doesn't show that will make life a bit easier, although I have said I will stand as guarantor if necessary. I read this thread as I have no experience myself of debt and am trying to help DD as much as possible as she is trying so hard to pay everything off.
