Speed ticket NIP recieved wrong reg nr

If it is 72mph you will be guaranteed a court visit. As others have suggested I would ask for a photograph in order to help identify the driver or else it could get messier. At 72 in 40mph you are looking at a potential ban but could get 6 points. 6 points on a SP50 (speeding on a motorway) is better for insurance than a MS90 which is failure to furnish.0

NO FIRST LETTER RECIEVED WITHIN 14 DAYSHow long have you owned your car? Is the address correct on the V5? Have you recently moved house? How different is the reg number on the NIP to your car?0 -

Who is the registered keeper of your car (regardless of reg number? The 14 day rule applies to the first NIP only which is sent to the reg keeper.
A typo is unlikely to make this go away as it will be corrected for court.0 -
The letter has to go to the keeper in 14 days who must name the driver in 28 days who then must get his own PCN in 14 days + 3 days for admin.
They reg is covered by the slip rule, the letter is an invitation to pay and avoid court and of little legal consequence.
The evidence at court will be the photographs and statement of the camera operator.
14 + 28 + 14 =
At 32 MPH over the limit of 40 or 80% over the limit it is usually straight to Mags court for a ban.
If its a conditional offer NIP and you want to keep your licence, you just got very lucky.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Clear up this keeper question please.
Are you the correct registered keeper of the car , not the other car, YOUR CAR !I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

There is actually afaik no time limit beyond the 14 days for the first NIP and the 6 months from offence.
There is every chance that if the the OP returns the NIP saying that he wasn't driving car ending in E may result in the correct number plate being issued.
If the original NIP was incorrect I don't know how the OP would have got it. It looks like the second NIP was incorrect but the first was correct and served within 14 days unless the registered keeper says otherwise.
The slip rule only saves you if you are the registered keeper, and you keep them waiting long enough for it not to be correctly served within the 14 days.0 -

I'm wondering if the reg number has been misread from day one & the 1st NIP was sent to the keeper of W.....E & not the OP? If so then I doubt the "14 day" rule has been complied with.
If I were the OP I'd take this to pepipoo but post all the info 'cos they will ask!Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Next question.
Whats the date on the NIP, it should have two, date of offence and date of issue of NIP.
Have you got the Envelope ?I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
the letter I received was dated 9-7-2015
postage stamp on letter is 10-7-2015
received letter 11-7-15
date of offence 01/06/2015
In letter it has the following first line
I WRITE IN CONNECTION WITH EARLIER CORRESPONDENCE CONCERNING THE ABOVE TRAFFIC OFFENCE.
Never received any letter from them whatsoeverMarktheshark wrote: »Next question.
