Dear All,
I received a NIP in the post as it looks like I was speeding on the m25 72mph 40mph speed limit.
Was on the 1-6-15 received letter today which says the following:
I write in connection with earlier correspondence( this is my first letter from them)
Secondly the Registration number on the letter has a mistake in it which is a not my car so what to do next?
1) letter came 14 days after speeding time
2) wrong registration Number on letter
Hope you can help
Thanks

It's less than 14 days if the speeding occurred on June 1st. If there is a small error on the registration it will be corrected with no loss to the prosecution by the time it would get to court. If the car was definitely yours you will still get done and with the new court charge you would be looking at not £100 and 3 pts but 3 pts and over £1000.
By all means ask for a photo 'to assist with identifying who was driving, but you must still name within 28 days regardless of 14 day limit. If it was 1st June, it's only been 10 days.0 -
Dear Mercdriver
1 June was 38 days ago if you don't count the day of it taking place and the date they produced the letter as that was date 9-7-15
Reg number is for a different car so I wasn't driving that one so do I still sign the paper?0 -

Unless I'm missing something we're in July now :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Are you the registered keeper?
Someone may have nominated you as the driver.
Do you think it could be you?0 -

If you're not the registered keeper then of course you won't have received the NIP within 14 days of the alleged offence. How could you have?
But the registered keeper probably did - and then notified them that you were the driver on that particular date.
As already said - ask for a pic - and if if that shows the reg number of your car then you'll have to put your hand up and say it was you.
A one digit letter or number wrong is of no consequence if the pic shows the correct one.0 -

Oh dear did we have a heavy night?0 -
I was driving at the time but never received a notice within the 14 days and when I do get one 38 days after the offence the Reg number on the NIP is wrong.
On Pepipoo it said
If the registration number is incorrect then the Defendant need only complete the Section 172 Notice attached to the NIP, stating that they are not in fact the registered keeper of the vehicle whose registration number is shown on the Notice.
So that is why I need advice.
At the time I drove there the signs on top said 40mph due to Roadworks. They had taken away the roadworks and I did keep driving 40mph with no other cars on the road and all 3 lanes being open I started to go to 70mph on the M25 with no cars and no roadworks there. It looks like I should have stayed at 40mph a little bit longer.
Still I was there but not in the car that is on the NIP0 -
How long have you owned your car? Is the address correct on the V5? Have you recently moved house? How different is the reg number on the NIP to your car?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0
