Leeds are getting a trolley bus service, so one option could be to be near the proposed route for that.

Nice places near by with good trains, Horsforth, Guiseley,Menston, Burley in Wharfedale, Saltaire,Bingley. You can find houses to rent in that range no problem, all around 15 mins to leeds on the train.

It depends what you're after in terms of amenities, size of property etc but I'd recommend the following in general:

    - Chapel Allerton, good for young professionals, lots going on with bars, restaurants, shops etc and a short bus ride to the city centre which runs regularly

    - Moortown, well connected with regular buses and some shops, not far from the above and below areas where there is a lot happening

    - Roundhay & Oakwood, great location with Roundhay Park nearby, well connected to the centre with regular buses, shops etc

Most of my experience is in the above areas but I have heard good things about Horsforth, West Park and Morley too.

    Hope this helps. :)

To be honest £600 won't get you much in the nicer bits of Leeds. What are you looking for? We currently rent a an unfurnished 3bed semi in moortown for £750pm. This hasn't changed for 3 years though and would be more now. Previously we rented a not particularly nice 2 bed flat in Roundhay for £695 pm. North Leeds generally is nicer but avoid Harehills and chapeltown at all costs. Chapel Allerton is nicest if you are younger (20's/30's) and Roundhay if you are 30's+. Horsforth is a little like chapel Allerton but (very slightly) cheaper. Pudsey is nice with good travel links. Headingly and Hyde park are studentville. Gipton and Seacroft are best avoided in the north/East and armley/Bramley/belle isle in the south/west. You get more for your money on the line towards skipton-saltaire(lovely little terraces) steeton and silsden, Bingley etc but the train stops at 11pm and it's quite a trek in a taxi so something to consider if you have a Leeds based social life. City centre flats aren't cheap and are also pokey. Most don't have parking either or its charged at £80-100 per month. I don't really know the area that well but if you are looking for a house I would suggest Morley.

Garforth is very nice, has two train stations, train takes about 10 mins to Leeds City station. It's quite peaceful, has a good Main Street with shops etc. Sports centre, Tesco, easy access to motorways when needed.

I agree with Morley, but beware Fountain Street - lots of rentals, but that road is crazy busy.
Gildersome, just outside Morley, is quieter.
  • I'm looking for a nice quiet area, but not too far away from a train Station.

I have been looking online at all the suggestions given, thankyou.

It does seem that £600 is too low for a 2 bed house in the 'nicer' parts.

Rightmove and Zoopla have next to nothing.

Churwell and churwell new village are a good bet for you. I reckon you'd be able to find something in your price range and it shares a train station with Cottingley. It's 1 stop from Leeds and takes about 8 mins. Churwell is part of Morley and has great links to trains and motorways you're a few moments from the m621 and a few mins from the m62. Decent area, seems to be safe enough and with the new Leeds police HQ bring about 1 minute away for a police car benefits from that too I guess.

You seem fixated on train stations.

Leeds has relatively good bus and rail network http://www.wymetro.com/

Sometimes a company deal is a better buy than a Metro pass and other times more expensive.

If you can give a a clue as to where you need to get to (work?) and whether you will be working nights?

One of the issues with Leeds is that the nature of an area can change in a very few streets. So some bits of Roundhay are very posh and others dodgy. Ditto Moortown (although less so)
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
