I managed to fix the sunroof by myself, with a little help from MSE. A bit of lubrication was all it needed so WD40 did the job perfectly. Thanks guys!
Although WD40 may have fixed the problem for now, it might well be advisable to give the mechanism a good clean then apply something slightly thicker and longer lasting such as a light grease. (I'm sure that if you ask in the garage they will recommend something).0
