I always blitzed the house clean before leaving 'in case the house gets broken into while we're away' i.e. that would mean neighbours checking through, bringing the police in etc.

My kids just thought burglars had really high housekeeping standards:rotfl:.

Ha ha! I always clean before I go because it is nice to get back to a tidy house.

I am a pretty chilled and organised packer. It helps that I am quite minimalist about what I take. I do go away for one night stays a fair bit so I do just keep some things in my case all the time. I also save any toiletry sachets and travel sizes I get so when I go away I just have to grab some stuff from the box.

I am really organised as I love a holiday and the build up to it. However if the worse came to the worse I would take a change of clothes, toothbrush and a bank card :rotfl:

Arghh yes my OH does that, he throws a few pairs of pants in the suitcase and then sits there smugly claiming he's so organised at packing. And then we arrive at our destination and it turns out he hasn't packed a toothbrush or deodorant and has to use mine and smell 'floral fresh' for the week :rotfl:

And of course it's your fault that these items didn't make it into the suitcase :(, and you get accusations like "Where's my hat/waterproof coat/binoculars/shaving foam/slippers/National Trust membership card?" Back in the cupboard at home dear, I imagine...

Thank you - OH thinks I'm crackers as I go into a kind of cleaning frenzy the week before we go away, but I don't want to come from from holiday witha pile of washing, cases to unpack, back into work and a house full of cleaning to need doing (or a grubby mug from our final cuppa growing stuff in it )

  • I usually go away with friends now the boys are grown up. I write a comprehensive list and tick off as I go. I get the luggage out a few days before and start packing the stuff I won't need in the meantime. I wash and iron stacks of stuff and then reduce it by half. However, if I'm going for say 4 or 5 days, I'll take about 15 pairs of pants!

I hate to be late and unprepared so I'm always ready in good time and feel secure that I've thought of everything!

The one thing I need to do before going away, is change the bed, and put on nice fresh stuff. To me, the nicest thing about coming home is sinking into my own fresh bed. Bliss.

After that, I figure I'm not going to Outer Mongolia so I pack the staple clothes/shoes items that I know work, depending on whether it's Summer or not.

Charger for the phone/iPad/kindle, and medications are top of the list. Always. And of course passport and other paperwork.

After that, I can buy it if I need it. Not to worry.

I never know what to do with the flippin house keys and car keys though. They weigh a ton. And I have to take them with me. Always a bit of worry that I will lose or misplace them on the way. They go into the hotel safe when I get there of course but honestly. That bit drives me nuts.

Keys for cars left at home are hidden away. Keys for car used to get to the airport are left with the airport parking people.

House usually looks like a bomb has hit it, which depresses me.

The airport parking that I use doesn't have that service of holding car keys, lucky you. So off I go with them. Terrified I will lose them somewhere, I can be a bit dizzy sometimes lol.

The house keys I bring along aswell. The neighbour has a spare set anyway, and is not always awake when we depart at stupid o'clock in the morning to give them in to them either! And what if they are not there when we return. Dilemmas dilemmas! But it's not the end of the world either really. Just me.

Some day I will learn how to deal with this!!

Banned from being involved in the packing.

It's left to the last minute.

Horrible stress fest where I'm to blame for everything.

Then it's my fault if anything's forgotten. Even though I'm not allowed anywhere near the task.

Currently going through this ridiculous routine. Divorce seems appealing.

I do this to my husband. Most things usually end up being his fault, especially if it's paperwork. Good luck xxx

Just need to see what's in the fridge today, cook it to eat today and tomorrow.

I did do that DVLA code for the hire car yesterday, although we are unlikely to need them in the USA. All paper work ready, printed out by me, OH now has it.

We just have have so much stuff to take for the gorgeous boys this year.
