Just to say that I very much agree on that Tesco clubcard vouchers are much better redeamed on the 'offers' which in store.

While the instore value of a point is 1p
The offer value is 3.3p. You may ask "hold on i thought it was 4 times the value". Well the price we assessed was the real purchase value - ie things like the Tesco listed price to a subscription to Cosmo is higher than the actual available price. However it works out an average of 3.3 times better to redeam the vouchers than in store.

i used my poin6ts last year and took the family on a week long all inclusive cruise. how.
i use tesco credit card, paid in full each month, we use the card for everything possible and recieve about £75 in tesco vouchers each quarter, if you spend in store you get face value but if you use on clubcard deals you now get 4 times face value, they are valid for two years so on my spend level i hold about £600 in vouchers * 4 = £2400. the only down side is that you spend or book direct and therefore cannot get any discounts. but hey who cares.

  • nice table that, but I guess it is just considering the value of points based on how they are earnt as opposed to spent (as they came from the credit card research)...now what would be really nice is to have something which gives an indication as to the best value ways to spend the points, and then to be able to compare schemes to see which is best from that perspective...

for example, i have some nectar points, air miles and hilton honours...all 3 schemes offer me a case of wine for various different point levels...which is the best value? or is it better for me to spend the points on a trip to legoland instead, and just buy a case of wine with money?

seems that in general it is best not to spend rewards in the shop where they are used (e.g. sainsbury for my nectar points), but how bad are they really as compared to days out etc?

to be able to compare schemes in this way would also enable the valuation of the scheme beyond a mere discount on spend which is suggested elsewhere on the site.
    Waddle you do eh?

    Hello,

We started shopping at Tesco's because of the Tussaud's Annual Passes (they stopped you having to collect 'keys') and because of Clubcard points.

We have bought 16 Annual Passes over 3 years, each pass worth £80.

We have even given them to Grandparents as Christmas Presents (and they didnt mind) meaning we can all have free days out together at places like Alton Towers.

We also use the Tesco Finest credit card (platinum) to earn more points. We just make sure we pay it off each month, otherwise we would pay more in interest than the points are worth.

Clubcard points are great - Free days out all year !!!

Shame they dont have more extra points offers though.

....and recieve about £75 in tesco vouchers each quarter
That's around £23k pa at Dame Shirley's Emporium, or nearly £450 per week. Welcome to this board, but are you sure you need to be here....?
  • Tescos do have extra points..u just have to search for them....
This year I have received £1200 in vouchers which i will convert into £4800 to pay for Summer hol next year...
To get this amount I look for products giving extra points.....and buy in bulk....
I received 38,000 points from Electrical Site which is worth £380 off shopping or £1520....they were giving 1000 points for every transaction over £20 !....and it incuded Game/boy ,Ps2 games etc etc
I have 50 jars of finest coffee that they gave me to take off their hands.
Finest disgusting cheese biscuits.......i lost count how many i purchased lololo.....and gave away.
Tesco has the best scheme around and customers are mad to spend their clubcard vouchers on shopping instead of deals.
  • I see WHSmiths card is excluded from the table - any reason for this?

I've been using it for years and often use the vouchers I get through the post - currently have £35 on my card. ;D

to use tesco vouchers at 4x their value you need to fill in the form and post your vouchers, they will send you 'deals tokens' to use at your choice of venue. i've used these before at places like bella italia and drayton manor park, they're great. i've also bought deals vouchers off ebay, they tend to go for around £6 for a ten pound deal voucher, so instead of using them instore you could also make a profit on ebay as each £10 deal voucher only costs you £2.50 in points.

alternatively, you could auction them on here, i'll put in a bid :-)

As I suspected - Nectar is about the worst scheme.

I have over 24000 points collected over a number of years and very little to spend them on except money off shopping at Sainsbury's at face value.

Both Boots and Tesco loyalty schemes are far, far better - which is why I hardly ever shop at Sainsburys.

I save up a year's worth of Tesco vouchers and have a "Haven" holiday for a week in summer hols - worth around £500-600. Much better than getting money off your shopping. The vouchers now are valid for 2 years so you can save up for more expensive hols.
