I calculate you will lose around £1200 from your tax credits per year.

Icequeen, can i ask for a quick calculation on how much we'll lose?
    Joint income £33000
2 children, one on higher rate DLA
    £75 per week childcare costs.

Current CTC for this year is £6600 in total.

    Thanks.

It is a huge cut, but don't shoot the messenger. I am only helping you understand the figures - i didn't make the policy.

I am not shooting you. Thanks for your kind help.

Nice to say Dave and Co feather their nest with a nice 10% pay rise and continue to spunk cash into overseas aid at the cost of £12bn a year while they screw over the poor on their own back door step.

I just need to find something to do that will make me £40 a week cash in hand.

Is the higher rate of DLA for care component?

I make your current tax credits higher than £6600 - around £7132. Was your income different last year?

  • I think I am screwed anyway as I have more than 16k in savings and I think under UC I am entitled to no tax credits for being careful and saving a bit of dosh.

They have said there will be transitional protection when people are moved from tax credits to UC and they have capital. No further information yet - if that is relevant it might affect your decision whether to leave now or not.

When all figures are worked out, most will lose out in one way or another.

I agree totally that the MP's feather their nests. Do not forget about all there expense claims too. These are above the wages they get.

Yes, Income was approx £35700 last year. The £33000 is our income for 2015-16 (we're expecting a drop in income).
Higher rate is for the care component.
Sorry, the childcare costs are £95 per week this year not £75.

Best to take a step back from the shock and see what happens really. Like I say cash in hand at £40 a week doing something seems a good option. This government is corrupt, lies and cheats so I would only be following an example. At least I don't have to find rent and a mortgage payment. My outgoings are quite small but I can't cut back on much more apart from the TV licence and boiler service plan. Maybe I will ditch the phone and internet. Use the library. Start using my disabled bus pass more instead of the car and save fuel and the council can pay for my trips then :T
