It's all going a bit wrong (and son has Aspergers).

Thanks so much for sharing that Corelli, it gives me some sort of hope for his future really.
He starts on his meds tomorrow morning, and has asked for us to get out for a walk tomorrow morning too, so i know that he is trying his best.
I do think the counselling is helping him, even though he is just hating it. I know that he has spoken to his counsellor about not arguing with me when i tell him not to go on his computer- he gets very obsessed, which is (apparently) a trait of Aspergers. And in turn, i am getting better at warning him that he wont be allowed on his computer a few hours (or even a day) in advance, not just springing it on him all of a sudden.
So It's just gone 4pm now and we have have a tech free day today, with no arguments.
He had an ECG yesterday and had a panic attack in the waiting room, just because there were about 6 people in the same room. I wish there was something i could do for him.
We are figuring this out, him and I, together. It's tough for us both, and also for my younger son. He (my younger son) is such a happy little thing (he is 11) and this is effecting him too. He doesn't show it, but I'd be stupid to think it wasn't.0 -
My son has started his medication (fluoxetine) and so far so good.
He has been having some severe insomnia, plus other sleep related irregularities, as side effects from the medication, but nothing too bad.
I have had several phone calls from SS, and they (the child in need team, and the disability team) are coming out to see us on Monday. I am not 100% sure what they can/will do, but i am happy with any support really.
My son was awake and OUT OF BED at 7.30 AM this morning!!! I could hardly believe it! He went to bed at 11pm (although he didnt go straight to sleep- he woke me briefly at 4am) so, i am hoping that the medicine will help his sleep pattern.0 -
Morning All
Just thought I'd update.
We saw the psych again yesterday, and she has prescribed Melatonin to help with his sleep. OH.My.GOD...i had 8 hours of sleep last night! 8 uninterrupted hours of sleep! My son asked to go to bed at 10.15pm...it's been a VERY long time since that has happened. I could cry with joy!
Also, he has had his meds (Fluoxetine) increased from 10mg to 20mg. I am hoping that he might see a change with that, as 10mg hasnt had any effect at all.
Social Services have been about as useful as a chocolate teapot. They can't do anything, as he is still refusing a diagnosis. They all say that i am coping fine, doing everything right, so they are happy to leave us to it.0 -
Appols for the resurrection of an old thread.
Just wanted to say a hearty thanks to the OP for this thread, i recognized my youngest son (then 15) in a lot of what was said and started the ball rolling with our GP. Just before Christmas we had the official diagnoses of ASD (Aspergers in effect but they no longer use the term), and are now making sure he gets full support at school for his upcoming exams and as he's now 16 giving him the choice of any other supports he thinks will be useful to him.
I cant thank you enough, this thread was the lightbulb moment, and you have changed this familys lives for the better.,Fully paid up member of the ignore button club.If it walks like a Duck, quacks like a Duck, it's a Duck.0 -
