I'm just boggling at £500 for a taxi ride to their school.

Proms* have been hyped up into a "Once in a Lifetime" event. The girls spend £100s on frocks & beauticication, (boys aren't far behind nowadays ;)) and everyone wants to make an entrance. They have to be on time, as the school gather outside the venue to watch each other arrive, do photos etc. £500 between 6 or more in a 30foot long hunmmer is par for the course.

If you rock up half an hour late, everyone is inside.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Back in the 70s and 80s, back seats in cars had no seat belts, but no one was bothered.

TorT is apparently based very much on old Celtic traditions. The term itself seems to be from there, but the activity comes from over here, long before the US existed. If the word of Wikipedia is anything to go by, that is.

What if you're the first ones there?! Tell the limo to go round the block and come back. Then the next ones do that same. Prom never starts.

Save £500 and tell kids they either don't go or they walk!

At least they were all saved from the most embarrassingly chavtastic arrival at the prom.

Agree, including the fuss around having to buy teachers gifts and saccharine cards for merely doing their job. And did this nonsense of infant age kids having a 'graduation' before going into junior school comer from the US? It's pathetic.

As for the OP, if the owner is hanging the phone up after shouting at you, you'll get nowhere without legal action. I'd take the half money and run.... if that's still an option. I know most of these chavtastic prom/hen do cars round my way tend to belong to people who live in, shall I say, not very salubrious areas.
