Has anyone ever received a recommend a friend payment for recommending a person that had already been recommended and received a previous RAF payment for switching?

When I tried this, they wouldn't pay a second time if the person you recommended had already received a previous RAF payment for switching after been recommended.

I think what was meant was that the payment would be made on 20th Aug rather than 20th Sept had the switches not completed by the end of July, not that they'd be ineligible for the double tell a friend bonus.

Ah, I see. Ours should complete in the next day or two, so we'll find out if we've been paid next month as well.

The more I read their terms and conditions the more I think we'd have a good cause to challenge them if for instance, someone had received £50 each from the previous RAF offer and then recommended each other again under this £100 offer (or someone different recommended them) and Nationwide refused to pay on this basis as they simply don't exclude people who've had it before in the terms of the offer.

    What do people think?

What exactly is the situation in which you've been refused? The only provision they have to exclude people in similar circumstances is that "This offer may not be used in conjunction with any of our other current account cash reward offers", but it is not in conjunction with another offer if the previous incentive relates to a different current account switch.

    Sorry. I'm not following

We know for certain that one can refer up to 10 people and get £100 for each referral

As well as referring, I'm hoping to open a few accounts myself, after having been referred by other Nationwide account holders and assumed I'd get £100 each time for this, too.

Does one get only one lot of £100 irrespective of the number of accounts opened following referral?

I got referred by 6 people earlier this year and did 6 switches and Nationwide only paid one £50 to me and said I could only get one £50 (as it was then) nomatter how many switches I did (switching 2 direct debits etc.). However they said I could refer as many people as I want and they'd pay further bonuses up to £500 (as it was then).

I got further £50s for referring other people to switch but once they'd been referred and switched once they were denied any further £50s for switching themselves again nomatter how many times and people referred them. However they could refer other people who had not already been referred and switched and receive further bonuses.

Follow? I've seen other posters complain that Nationwide would only pay for the first time you are referred too, despite their T&Cs not saying anything about been referred multiple times (you can refer other people up to the maximum but not be referred yourself more than once is the gist).

Yes, I understand now. Understandably, they let you refer as many people as you like because the purpose of the referrals is for them to gain as many new customers using NW for their main current account as possible. But if someone has already switched to NW, they don't want to pay out more referral fees, because they aren't gaining anything from the second or third referral... but it seems they've failed to put any provision in the T&Cs to cover this. So I'd say you've found a loophole on their terms, which they ought to honour until they close it down.

Nationwide did not pay for the 2nd recommendation. I asked via secure message where it says in the terms and conditions that recommend a friend incentive is once per friend. They did not reply but forwarded by secure message to there complaints dept.

The reply I received from them was:-

In 2014, you previously recommended xxxx , and received £50.00 for recommending her. At Nationwide, it is our policy that you can only recommend the same person for this incentive once. This is why you have not received this payment.

I note that this information is not listed within the Terms and Conditions which are available for our customers via our website. I apologise if this has caused you any confusion, and as a result feedback has been recordedas part of our Internal Complaint Procedure.

In view of the above, I am unable to uphold your concerns, as there has been no Society error on this occasion. I understand this letter may come as a disappointment, however, I hope it explains how I have come to reach this decision.

They have confirmed that this is not noted in there terms and conditions. They said it was there final response and I can take it to FOS.

I have passed my complaint to FOS. Will see what they say.
