To Landlords, would you Rent to a Pet owner?

To cut a long story very short, i find myself needing to find a new house to rent.

I have 3 cats, 1 my own and 2 that belonged to my ex bf.

They are part of the family now and get on great with each other (so getting rid of them, somehow, is not an option).

Unfortunately after months of looking, applying and advertising with letting agencies and private landlords, i've been unable to find anywhere to rent :(

The vast majority of properties say ''no pets'', occasionally one will allow A pet, but no more.

I've even offered 1 years rent in advance and additional bond payments of £100 per cat, yet still no luck :eek:

So would you rent to somebody like me, if offered rent and extra bonds up front?

    I've let and currently let to pet owners: Anecdotal evidence suggests pet owners stay longer (better for landlords..) and may be more careful.. but then again there are the horror stories...

    You've tried being honest and upfront with no luck. I'd be tempted to do the other thing now.

    the problem probably is that no1 wants a possible crazy cat lady who will have more than the 3cats she already has :D
    from experience some cats are cool, but some are !!!!!! !!!!!!!s who scratch/demolish house and in same time also !!!!/crap wherever they want

    I have a dog and rent but it wasn't easy to find somewhere. When I first moved where I am I also had 2 cats.


    I did tell the landlord that if my pets did any damage I would pay for it but they never have. The previous owner though had a dog that peed all over the carpets - landlord wouldn't replace them so we did at our cost. She also had children that scribbled all over the walls in most of the rooms

    do as I used to, when they come around to inspect let the cats go for a walk
    Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    What sort of size property are you looking at?

    Three cats in a studio or 1-bed flat with no outside access is a VERY different kettle of fish to three cats in a four-bed house with a garden.

    Not all cats are suitable to be outside at any point.

    I rent with pets...I do not declare the pets. I am not paying an extra £100 non refundable fee per pet for no reason so I just do not declare them. If they were to cause damage I'll fix it.

    I am also a landlord. I will rent to tenants with pets demanding the agency does not charge a fee and I don't care if they don't declare them as I know how difficult it is to find a place renting with pets....the kids will probably do more damage to a property than a pet. Anyway, if you do wish to declare them upfront and a landlord is worried offer to accept regular inspections which should pick up any signs of damage at an early opportunity and a remedy found.

    £100 per cat extra on the bond. Crazy! Cats don't do any damage. I would rent to a cat owner in a heartbeat, as cat owners are the best! :D

    I think you must have just been unlucky so far! :(

    In my experience,many (decent) landlords will let to a tenant with cats. Not so much dogs as they are more likely to be noisy and smelly and make more of a mess and do damage in the house. I am not a dog hater BTW (although I prefer cats!) But that is just the truth...

    A 2 bed House with garden or backyard.

    Letting Agencies have quotes £100, £150, and £200 per pet on top of the normal bond, but none have so far managed to find a landlord who will accept 3 cats.

    A couple of Agencies have said they don't let properties at all to pet owners, others say it is very rare that landlords will accept 1 pet.

    Advertising for Private Landlords offering an extra £100 x 3 on top of the normal bond, plus 1 years rent paid straight away hasn't led to any replies :eek: :(
