Still not been able to find anywhere to rent that will except the cats.

I've been trying Gumtree as well now, but even the offer of rent up front and extra bond payments hasn't brought any results at all

We have also had trouble with this- we are moving to rented whilst we buy a house, having sold ours and nothing on the market we want. We thought it would be ok with 2 cats- previous experience 9 years ago was fine...Minot so this time. Have been turned down for 5 properties, and flat out refused for a lot more. Which confuses me because as a former landlord I would have rented to cat owners, and possibly dog owners at my discretion.
This time we spent a long time with one particular agent who seems good, have had to find a property about 10 miles further away than we wanted to be, and the landlord isn't happy about the pets but the house has been empty and unfurnished for 3 months so, he has had to live with it.
Might it be worth looking for empty properties that haven't rented for a while, or those that are a bit older and worn - the brand new refurbished ones were not keen on us. maybe try asking work colleagues who might have friends who rent? This was our standby- an offer from 2 separate people at work who could out is in touch with people they knew would be ok to rent to us- but the location wasn't ideal which is why it was standby?
Or send the cats to live with some willing relatives for a while, then broach the question once you are in?

I am a landlord with three properties - all houses with gardens. I will not allow cats in my properties EVER. I am a very honest, caring landlord. I really look after my tenants and I do allow other pets (and of course children). I carry out regular inspections and believe me I would know immediately if a cat had been kept in any of my houses so no point in taking them out when I visit.
Quite apart from the fact that I LOATHE cats, my husband, who does all the maintenance, is allergic to them so he wouldn't be able to work inside the property. Also, they DO cause damage. I have personal experience of this. They scratch paintwork, wallpaper, carpets and OMG they absolutely stink. Cat lovers clearly don't notice it - or the clumps of cat hair which get everywhere (I even found clumps of hair in the oven the one cat owning tenant I had).
They are disgusting creatures and cause disputes with neighbours because they constantly bury their stinking crap in their gardens.
I have a clause in my tenancy agreement banning cats on either a temporary or permanent basis, If a tenant tried to deceive me about this I would evict immediately irrespective of they money it would cost!
So, good luck in your quest for a cat loving landlord - in my experience they are few and far between.

Surely it's fair enough not to allow cats if the LL is allergic to them! Which is another good reason to be upfront about them.

OP, are you looking for furnished or unfurnished? I imagine if cats do any damage it'll likely be to sofas etc that can be scratched so that might be an avenue to look down. You can get secondhand furniture from places like the British Heart Foundation so it needn't be really expensive.

What if the landlord is allergic to curry spices?

Read some of the posts on this thread and you'd get the impression that a landlord's allergy would be a minor irrelevance to some tenants. After all, once they've moved in, it's their gaff.

You take good care of your tenants? What do you do? Tuck them in at night and read them a story?
