During the tenancy it does become the tenant's though.
Not quite. It's still the landlord's house. But it IS the tenant's home. Subtle, but important, difference.

Reading back and if a tenant lied I would end tenancy. Sorry bad day of being a landlord with terrible tenants

Which is what any reasonable person would do if they entrusted an asset worth tens of thousands to someone in exchange for money.

If a tenant doesn't mind moving every twelve months with their precious pet, they know what to do.

No, it's not. The landlord doesn't get possession of the property again until the tenancy ends.

These articles explain property ownership rather well.

Urban Myth - When a landlord lets a proper, it's still his.

Do tenants own the property they rent?

It's a concept many landlords appear to struggle with.

    I didn't say they did.

    Not again...

Tenants do not own the property, they own the exclusive right to use it.

The reason the landlord doesn't have possession is because he/she has ‘sold’ the land to someone, but just for a slice of time. So the tenant or lessee owns the land or property for the specified time period (and has the sole right to live in it or use it), and the landlord owns the right to get it back afterwords. What lawyers call the ‘reversion‘.

Yes again. As long as there are landlords continue to claim that they still own the property during the tenancy on this forum.

I disagree with you and Tess disagrees with you so we'll just have to agree to disagree as we'll never see eye to eye on this until you realise you are wrong. :D

    We are not wrong.

Tessa used an analogy that clearly lead to more confusion... That's the issue with poor analogies.

You are but that's ok because I still love you. :smileyhea
  • Still not been able to find anywhere to rent that will except the cats.

I've been trying Gumtree as well now, but even the offer of rent up front and extra bond payments hasn't brought any results at all
