the girl should block anyone on facebook who is having a pop at her - and if the remarks are personal and on fellow school pupils' feed/timelines, she might want to get school involved. I know my daughter's school takes social-media bullying seriously.[/QUOTE

She has blocked them. However, my point was ( badly expressed I admit ) why would you be friends with your child's friends and more to the point, why on earth would join in with the Teenage !!!!!ing?

no - its disgusting behaviour. Kids being kids will bicker on a public forum (electronic form of passing notes) but adults should show an example of what is appropriate and what is not in public. After the storm has blown over the comments are still there for the world (depending on security settings) to see and can be hurtful / inappropriate / inaccurate.

I find it as distasteful as those people who post about very personal matters on FB, then you're supposed to act as if you never read it when you see them. I really don't need to know the ins / outs of peoples domestics. If you wouldn't announce it to an audience in RL, don't put it on FB. Food !!!!!! an exception, I love getting recipe ideas.

i agree with you, i don't get it. I have my daughter and my niece (both teenagers) as my facebook friends, and they "like" and comment on enough carp without loads more teenagers doing it and clogging up my feed!
I should maybe point out though, that it was maybe the teens who sent their friend requests on faceache to the mum in this case, and not the other way around? Not that thats any better really.

Kids are kids, adults are adults. Kids rarely act like adults and adults shouldnt act like kids.

My early experience is that 8 times out of 10 the kids can sort it out between themselves. 1 time out of 10 you wade in all guns blazing to defend your child the kids sort it out between themselves leaving the adults daggers drawn never to speak to eachother again.

Of course there is the time when adults have to step in but thats a matter of where good judgement and wisdom comes in.

exactly - and that time is highly unlikely to be on public feeds on faceache :).

That is me out then. Obviously this is a private argument within the Facebook gang and it is more important to stick together if outsiders have an opinion.
  • As it involves a parent trusted to join the trip as a responsible adult, you should forward your concerns to both the teacher in charge of the trip and the Head Teacher so that somebody who engages in such inappropriate behaviour (and breaches of data protection, plus very possibly safeguarding issues), is pulled up for it and never accompanies students again.

We won't have one parent in to 'help' ever again on the basis of some blatantly racist comments she made about parents and students to me. I found it equally offensive that she made the comments and that she assumed I would find her amusing/agreed with her archaic colonial attitudes, and refused point blank from that point on to have her anywhere near me. And I was backed up by the boss because parents are subject to the same expectations as any other staff.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I have four children and I have several of their friends as Facebook friends. No issues no problems at all. No slagging off that I've seen.

I even remained friends with one person when my child fell out with them.

Some of the children's mates I am closer to than others.
