Also I'm guessing cos we are visiting over the half term weekend it will be packed - when it comes to rides/attractions which ones should we look to use our fastpass and try and get queueing early for?
you can call the Disney Dining reservations line on 0033 160 304050 with 60 days or less to go before your visit, to book any restaurant tables you like. Cafe Mickey is a character meal at lunchtimes (12 noon until 2.45pm) and dinner (6pmish until after 11pm) every day, so as long as you book your table there within these timeframes, you will be having a character meal.
which half term weekend are you going?
Any weekend at DLP is busy - so if you're staying onsite, get to the main park for 8am and do the quietest hour of Extra Magic Hours to ride most of the rides in Fantasyland (Dumbo, Peter Pans flight, Carousel, Teacups) and Buzz, Orbitron and Space Mountain in Discoveryland, usually without queueing in that first hour. You will start to queue for rides from about 9am, so thats when I usually have breakfast in the park (ask at your hotel for this instead of breakfast at your hotel, unless you're happy getting into breakfast at your hotel at 7am and then off to the park for 8).
If you want to do the new Toy Story Playland rides in the Studios, or Crush Coaster, get to the Studios park for 9.30am, and when the turnstiles open, head for that area of the park. None of these rides have fastpass and they are all very popular. If you don't get them done in the first half hour of the Studios day, come back to them in the last hour of the Studios park day.
Use your fastpass as you like, depending on what rides you prefer to do. We use fastpass all the time on BTM, that fastpass queue works very well indeed - on and off with your fastpass ticket usually in less than about 15 minutes.
If every ride is busy and you can't get fastpass until later in the day, do the shows - there are loads in the Studios and they are all worth seeing (well, except the Playhouse Disney live one for me as my DD is way too old for that one) - but the Stunt show, Stitch Live, Cinemagique and Animagique are all great, and you don't have to wait for more than about 10 minutes to get into these, regardless of how busy the parks are.
If you want to watch the parades on a weekend, you will have to stake out your ropeside spot and glue yourselves to it about 30-40 minutes before the parade starts.
If your kids/you like character meets, the Disneyland Hotel foyer at 4pm is a great place to go - the characters do a song/dance there on every weekend afternoon, and plenty of opportunity to meet them and get photos/autographs. To the side of the stage at the Cars n Stars parade is great too (near the Cinemagique entrance) - the characters play around there "backstage" before their party piece on the stage.0 -
Balletshoes - We are going next weekend - October half term in England
Thanks so much for your suggestions and advice - really excited now!:)0 -
to add, at toyland they have two queues, the main one and than other queue for "single rider.!" if there is just one of you going to ride on it than it can often be quicker to go on that queue than go onto the main one. also on fastpasses on sat at least quite a few rides by mid-day will "sell out" on them. you can also goto the city hall pay 30 euros roughly and get a premium fastpass which allow you to use fastpass unlimited. normally you have to wait until your time slot come up until you can get other one. had to say one time our annual pass had that feature as well during our trip. god knows why..
at cafe mickey you want to book at i think it is 7pm for dinner it is when the characters do a dance.0 -

imo half board plans don't save you any money these days, so just take the 100 euros with you and eat where you like
.
I don't know what happens on conversion - I would have thought your bank would just accept the transaction as usual and use its own conversion rate to convert into pounds, with no extra fees for doing so. Best to check first with your bank if you're in any doubt - oh and maybe have a look at Voyage Privee - they are doing a flash sale for some dates in January for DLP.0 -

your meal vouchers aren't for breakfasts.
When you check in at your hotel, you'll be offered breakfast time slots for each day you are there. At the Santa Fe it doesn't matter what timeslot you get, you can go to breakfast when you like - however - at the Santa Fe you really need to go for breakfast before 7.45am, because otherwise you'll be queueing to get into the breakfast restaurant, queueing to bag a table, and queueing for your food.
Also, if you are interested, you can swap your breakfast in the hotel for breakfast in the park, free of charge. You must ask at your hotel for this, its not available every day, and you don't get to choose the restaurant, its chosen for you. If you do this, try to get a 9.15am or later slot, so you can go to the park for the first and much quieter hour of Extra Magic Hours from 8am to 9am, then have your breakfast without leaving the park.0 -

Thak you very much for the advice. Breakfast in the park sounds nicer. Will ask in reception about it. Im hoping we`ll be up early enough for being first in if we do end up eating in Santa Fe. Worrying more as were going in the half term so it will be more busy..2014 wins-2 picnic hampers,Boxfresh goodies, foodie festival tickets,Polo event tickets,Kent airshow family ticket,£25 Nisa voucher,New Pines holiday for 6,meal for 6,fake tan and mitt, pickled beetroot,£50,£100 Mucky boots voucher.
