Should I buy food at a friend's party?

Sweden is one, and they split the bill between all guests, it isn't just a contribution.
Like I said in my first post, people are going overboard in their assumptions that the 'signature dish' would be either lasagne or a bog standard bbq. Not for any other reason. Yes it is reasonable to be annoyed that the original invite didn't mention any expected contribution but that is all. It really depends on what the signature dish is and we don't know.
I personally wouldn't mind this sort of thing as I wouldn't feel obliged to return the favour, if it was my friend I would certainly know whether they could cook and have an inkling of the type of food to expect.0 -

Have a party and charge your guests for the food
That is outrageous!
I'm with you on this. If you invite people to your home you do it at your expense. Obviously social etiquette would suggest these guests may bring him something as a thank you but charging each guest? Absolutely Not.

He should take his own food and some extra, and offer the extra for sale at less per portion than the host. He might even come home with a profit :money:0

Does the £7 include drinks or do you have to bring your own. If alcoholic drinks are provided and you know your going to drink at least one bottle of decent wine then £7 is a bargain as your still getting a free meal. Whats wrong is it not being mentioned when you were invited.0
