Maybe the friend is only doing this to end up as one of these questions.
Or maybe to tease Mse nick?0 -
If I couldn't afford to stump up for the cost of a party, including food, I wouldn't have the party. I wouldn't dream of charging guests for the food!!0

Will be hosting a BBQ for some golfing friends ( third year running) There will be 20/24 adults. Last couple of years it was bring a dish and a bottle.
But we had too many deserts. So only this morning we had a little get together and will all give a £10 and the food will be bought centrally.
Now the OP has a point about the switching and now the request for cash, but our BBQ is late July and everyone seemed positive.0 -
I think the MSE team seem to be having alot of issues at the moment...perhaps they think the boards need to become more exciting0

Take a bottle of Blue Nun, charge £10 per glass + corkage then you'll be quids in."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0

I think we often end up 'paying' for parties / get together , anyway
Going to a birthday/wedding event? Take a present
Invited to a BBQ 'is there anything you want me to bring?'With love, POSR0 -
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to ask guests to contribute to the cost of a party although it should be agreed in advance.
When I was a student I organised a Christmas party for 10 people, cooked a roast dinner and made some mulled cider and everyone paid £3 to help cover the costs. At that point in our lives no one could afford to host the whole thing but we still wanted to do something all together.0
