Car boot sale advice - updated 2013

I just did my first ever car boot and it was a success! I went with a family member to split the cost (£3.50 each) and we made £150 between us.
Generally I found buyers to be friendly and willing to pay a few quid for decent items. I probably undersold some things but as it was my first I'm really happy with what I got.
One thing that did surprise me is how few people wanted to haggle. I wasn't surprised at the ones who accepted my first price because what I asked for was reasonable, but I was surprised by the ones who thought the price was too high but just walked off instead of asking for lower. Maybe they just didn't care enough to try.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience though and this thread helped a huge amount for my planning. We were swarmed at the beginning as this forum had warned, but had no issues really. No thefts (as far as we can tell), no one rifling through the car before we'd finished, no fake £20 notes, none of the horror stories I read about.
It's definitely something I'd do again without a second thought.0 -
Sometimes I don't bother to haggle if I think the start price is way too high, yesterday I asked about a gym ball and they wanted £4, I usually pick them up for a pound and they are not much more than £4 new. It isn't worth the effort--especially on such a hot day!
Glad you did well, I always think I have underpriced if buyers don't haggle!0 -
This year it is obvious that my fruit trees are going to have a record crop - more than I, friends & family can possibly preserve and eat.
Can I simply take this fruit along as say half of my offering at a boot sale?
In the supermarket sometimes fruit is sold by the item rather than the kilogram ie 10 apples for £1; as my kitchen scales would not be trade legal.
I ask this question, as at the back of my mind I seem to remember watching a programme where trading standards raided a boot sale.
In the main they were looking for counterfeit clothing etc; but they managed to have a super verbal punch up with what looked like a small holder selling his excess Bramley apples?.
- These apples are not labelled - where did you get them?
- Off my tree last night..........etc etc.
[I suppose it is just another "jobsworth" regulation from the EU ignored by the French and gold plated by the UK ?].
Has anyone got practical experience of trying to sell "produce".?0 -
Can anyone let me know what Dunton bootsale is like on a Wednesday? I know it's good on a Sunday but the weather has been rubbish today.0

I have a huge volume of stuff to sell and am wondering what current prices would move the stuff?
I haven't done a car boot in a long time and don't know what people are likely to pay these days.
I am going to Blochairn which sees thousands of customers on a hot day so hoping it's dry and the people are there

Hello all can anyone tell me if the chelmsford boreham boot sale is on tomorrow.1st November.0
-
Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0
