OP, I think you would find it really useful to have a read of this, Martin's guide to credit scores and ratings.

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/credit-rating-credit-score

It explains the whole subject very clearly and thoroughly.
  • Sorry my mistake not a default but something showing a negative effect and the check they carried out counted as a negative! It states clearly on the report and the gentleman that carried out the application said to me go straight home and re apply else where before it showed on my report as it would act against me and he was right about that! The lady in branch I spoke to advised me they only went on your credid report to decide the rate, she advised other banks will also consider financial commitments and the like but that don't! So if your 100% sure they do take this into consideration its something else I need to ask them to look at because their not coming across as a very competent company.
The reason I found this out regarding how they work out the Apr is because I asked if my income would be a factor in deciding the rate and I was told no they work that out purely by the credit check they Carrie out.
I will find the link regarding the law on requesting the decision for decline and post it up.

Iv received an appoligy email so far and the promise it will be looked into so guessing something hasn't been felt with correctly just have to wait and see as don't think anyone has had the same happen. Thanks to those of you that have been helpful I really appreciate it.

The entry left on your credit history is not a negative.

Sounds like you have been fed some lies.
  • Right I maybe on hear looking for advise but I am far from stupid! The credit search from Santander has had a negative effect on my credit file, I'm really annoyed people keep saying it won't it hasn't, it HAS!!! I will screen shot the page because there is no need for people to keep going on and on about something that is right because iv even spoke to some one from credit expert and its not just credit expert there is two others which clearly say that loan application had a negative effect on my credit file!

Anyway I didn't find the answer on but I did find out the reason I was declined was because I rent my property I needed the money for house hold items and rest to go towards a car but the thick idiot put i wanted the money for home improvements! So due to his error is flagged up I was renting so that was a strike for me.

So basically I wouldn't recomend them at all. Took over two months to sort this out and I'm awaiting confirmation that the check is being removed from my credit file as I made a complaint that it was unfair my credit file should be effected so badly because someone can't listen to information and type the correct information in the computa.

Once that's off I'll have nothing further to do with them and hopefully my credit score goes back to normal.

Fine. I'll take your word for it!

But you still are confusing credit file with credit score. The credit check is an historical fact: you applied for credit, consented to a check and this check was carried out. So it was rightfully recorded on your file. As this was not an erroneous check, it will not be removed.

It might have had an impact on the score you were given, but none of your potential lenders will see that score. They will only see the facts and whatever they make of that recent credit check is up to them.

    That's the spirit!
  • bengal-stripe I'm not really sure what you are suggesting with your comment!!! If I said they said they were going to remove the check they are, I don't appreciate you calling me a lier!

I feel so bad for people coming on hear to get help and all people do is judge and tell them their wrong when its them that hold the facts! Joke!

Anyway I just want to say thanks for everyone who got back to my post with the thought of being helpful ;),

I am pleased to say as I all ready said but was told I was wrong, my credit file is now free of the Santander check, ;D as all ready stated they admited a couple of things were not done correctly so agreed to remove the search and I received confirmation today its gone.

I know my rights and wasn't gonna let this one drop as I think they are really unprofessional although the complaints team are more then helpful and sorted it out quickly so a big thanks to them but I will be having no more dealings with Santander! Thanks guys x

    Hi Dani

Credit Scoring is very complicated but what I think is causing the confusion here is Credit Expert are telling you what has happened to your credit score with them and the way they interpret data. They are not lenders and do not offer loans. This is what they perceive as a negative impact. And when they decide to become lenders, then their opinion will become relevant.

Lenders (Santander included) are not interested in fair/poor/good, 574, 896, 499 - they are never given this information. They do not use it, ask for it or need it.

How can Credit Expert tell you your likelihood of gaining credit when they do not hold your salary details. Do they guess whether you are employed on £16k, £20k or £100k or do they assume you are unemployed and claiming benefits. My point is they do not know enough about you to determine whether you can have lending, whether you would be a high risk (ie poor credit score) or low risk (ie high credit score). They have no idea and just swing your score up and down in the hope you will pay £15 a month for it.

    I hope this helps

Nor they with you I suspect. Without being rude to you personally. In business sometimes customers are more trouble than they are worth.
  • Seriously some people have nothing better to do! I don't get why people have to comment if its not relevant to what I asked in the first place. Its apparent by peoples profiles how they troll this sight and think they have the right to comment and be rude to others! At the end of the day Santander were far from professional , I pulled them up on it and I have I received my apology so end of.
I came on hear to update people with my progress and result as they took the time to reply to me those that were helpful and still
all these comments no one actually answered my original question. Thanks everyone who helped everyone else who felt the need to comment and be rude get a life!!!
