I am. I switched an account to TSB Today & filled that with (almost) £2k. Club Lloyds is above the threshold. Currently in the process of opening accounts to HSBC, M&S, Halifax, Nationwide & Co-op.
Don't ignore Tesco current accounts if you are struggling with Lloyds thresholds. 3% AER beats 0.55%/0.8% in an ISA hands down!

Keep your unused cards in a safe

Yeah. As mentioned this was my views before finding MSE. I'm now planning to use Halifax for purchases as it will be largely empty (just a flow in & out for the monthly £5)

I'm only struggling now because of the house deposit. Once that's gone it'll take a while to fill Lloyds, TSB & Nationwide up to the max

Applied initally over a week ago. No response. No email confirmation.

Just a confirmation screen with a green tick. Should here in 7 working days.

Rang up tonight. No record of my application. Advised to try again and ring back in 20 minutes or so to check its gone through.
Got the confirmation screen again. Green tick. No email.

Rang back spoke to someone else. No record of my application. But could i ring back in 24 hours?

Has anyone successfully applied and got this account?

    Don't think i'll bother again......

I had exactly the same issue (see my post a bit further up the thread)... I opted to do the application over the phone, takes about an hour but at least you get a decision over the phone straight away!

They won't send out an e-mail confirmation as far as I'm aware... Pretty 'unique' compared to other banks!

I applied on line for a joint account which went through very smoothly. Confirmation received within 7 days, went into HSBC branch who were very very helpful and set up the online and telephone banking access there and then. They also offered to set up the cash ISA's but I didn't have any details with me so couldn't do that. Once I got back home I then rang to do the account swap which was very efficient apart from the first operator telling me I couldn't do it as it had to be done with the application (i soon put her right :)). Cash ISA's also set up easily and funded with £300 each.

The only blip is that we haven't received the switch papers yet so rang back last night and was told they have had some issues with sending the paperwork out but will resend it. Telephones seem to be answered reasonably quickly as well so at the moment everything is good!

No you have to register the card and then contact HSBC to set up telephone banking.

During that process you create a number(between 6 and 10 digits)

when telephone banking is set up you can register for internet banking via the HSBC web page. As part of the security process you will be asked to enter 2 or 3 of the digits from the number you set up during telephone banking.

awesome...cheers for reply....so my plan is to now open the isa...deposit £300 and then wait for my TSB to pay out £100 and then transfer to HSBC as I have a 2 month window to transfer with HSBC....

My plan seems to be going well!

Applied online 9 days ago..Had a rejection letter today for an Advance account but an offer of an ordinary HSBC account if I visited their local branch! No explanation other than I did not meet their internal "scoring' system.

    Amused and mystified.

Annoyed ... as I easily met all their published criteria. My only thoughts were that I am retired and living off a pension (which on its own far exceeds their minimum income criteria) and that I said that my income would be transferred in from another bank account.... Well first time in 50 years a bank has refused me an account!

OTOH amused as my wife has just been accepted on a First Direct account ...same details as me but with no specific income ... I guess they will be hoping to charge her a monthly fee...some hope...
  • I applied last Sunday and received a successful letter through the post this morning. Interestingly I do earn over the £1750 required to fund the account, but that money currently goes directly into First Direct.

I am assuming I will be able to apply for the save together ISA once I am all set up with HSBC as I couldn't see a way of signing up at the same time when I applied unless I missed something.
