I applied on the 13th and came home to a letter today dated the 20th Reference: NSC05 "accepting my application" (note the wording is carefully chosen Not to say I've actually been accepted for the account!) and asking me to sign a signature record form and sales acknowledgement slip.

    So some movement at least!

Had one of these letters about 8 days ago for my 'just for fun' application for a second Advance account.

HSBC aren't fast. They never sent me a debit card and/or a PIN for the first current account I opened with them about 3 years ago. They couldn't have known I only wanted to use the account for the Regular Saver, but as that was my only reason, and as they gave me online banking access, I didn't miss the card and PIN.

I'll follow the process of opening my 2nd Advance account with interest, and without expectations.....

Do you know if it's ok to switch a dormant account with no DD or SO set up? Couldn't see anything in the T&Cs

I applied on June 29th. I received that form on the 14th and sent back. Still no reply. I'm estimating a months process to open an account. I do have a sort code and account number but not game to throw 1750 at it - might try registering for online banking even without the correspondence.

I shall switch it with glee.

You will need a telephone passcode to register for online banking

Yes, I did but I was asked to show last three statements and I did say its my 'main' account!;) my main account for switching:)

We managed to get a joint Advance just before the switch offer started, but it was hard work. The online application didn't work and left us in limbo. It turned out that we had only been given a basic account because of my non-employment and my partners dual nationality.

In branch we were upgraded after answering some questions and showing proof of our income but it didn't seem to matter where it came from as long as it was more than £1750. All our paperwork was photocopied and taken away to be shown to a manager. In the end I think it came down to the fact that they liked us and had seen how much we had in other banks. We were reminded on the way out that we had to use the Advance as our 'main bank account'.

Just about worth it for two loyalty ISAs and Reg Savers. They seem to be a very strange bank who don't quite know where they are going.

I applied online June 29th. They said they sent me the NSC05 form on July 2nd but it never arrived (read: was never sent) so they sent it again and I sent it back on the 14th. And yes you guessed it today I received another NSC05 in the post. So I count this the 3rd time they say they've sent me the NSC05 form. Wonderful! A 30 minute phone call this evening (what a terrible IVR system) led to them telling me to ignore the letter and take ID into a branch. Well, my local branch was the one that on the 10th told me "we don't do account openings here, the phone is over there in the corner try that", so lets see how it goes.

    Strange indeed.

No letter. I call and without even taking my name they tell me I have to go to a branch with ID and proof of address. I go to a branch and they ask me for 3 months of statements (no explanation of why, they just need them). I tell them I don't get them in paper, and they say that it's OK if I print them (they want it as proof of something, or they just ask to annoy their customers?).
I get a letter... "with the information I requested", no real information.
I go back to the branch with the statements. They can now open the account, and they even offer me a credit card. The credit card selling strategy is this:
HSBC) Do you want a credit card?
    Me) .......
Me) Does it have a low interest rate or something?
    HSBC) 18,9%
    Me) Something else?
    HSBC) ...
Me) It has any promotional 0% period?
    HSBC) Just 3 months...
    Me) I don't need it

Then at home I check the credit card and it actually offers 3 months 0% purchases... AND 34 months 0% balance transfers and £25 cashback to Advance customers.

All this in a branch in Oxford Street, not in some small lost town.

    Strange bank.

My 2 local HSBC branches must be the most incompetent of all.
I handed the 2 required forms to the 1 branch on Tuesday 7th. Somehow they lost/binned the one (my guess is because it was chunky they assumed it was T&Cs and missed my signature on the back) and only sent 1 of the 2 to head office.
After no updates I rang to check on the 16th & found out of the missing sheet. Same day I went to another local branch and signed that doc again. After getting no answers from calling the last week they told me Yesterday that this branch had somehow misplaced the document and so also had not sent it to HQ...apparently it's in the post now.

All because I thought handing them in to a branch would be quicker than me mailing them =/ I'd have received the debit card 2 weeks ago if I had just mailed them myself =/
